Dato J. Jegathesan, a ‘Secret Swami’ cult top leader-roving ambassador

Dato J. Jegathesan of Malaysia. International Finance Figure, and Secret Swami Cult Leader

It is doubtful whether the Sathya Sai Organization or one of its highest profile international leaders told the administration of St.John’s Baptist Church – Fellowship Hall 109 West Roosevelt Road,Little Rock – that their speaker, Dato J. Jegathesan, is fully committed to the belief that his guru, for whom he is a highly active roving ambassador, proclaims himself the ‘Father’ who sent Jesus Christ. This church, and its affiliate the Harmony Health Clinic, billed Jegathesan as:

• World-renowned author and motivational speaker
• Consultant to the United Nations for economic development in
Africa
• Former Deputy Director General, Malaysian Industrial
Development Authority
• United Nations International Development Organization
• United Nations Council on Trade and Development
• Japanese International Cooperation Agency

A top secret swami cult leader

Dato J. Jegathesan, a top Sathya Sai Baba cult leader

Interestingly – although Sai Baba and his cult strongly denounce involvement with psychics, mediums, disincarnate entities and so on – Jegathesan, long a great favourite of his guru, is happily permitted his fascination with these topics, having written extensively on them.

That a predominantly Moslem country such as Malaysia has permitted Jegathesan to climb so high surely argues that it is, by and large, a tolerant country.

Sathya Sai apologist J. Jegathesan and suicide

Re Jegathesan’s son’s suicide – “… invalidating someone as ‘mad’ has been shown to be widely used as a means of placing blame on those whose opinions or minds one otherwise can’t control (eg. Laing and Esterson’s ‘Sanity, Madness and the Family) . Add to this, the intensity of the dramatic events directly linked to the onset of his natural depression at his mother’s death”

The suicide of Sathya Sai devotee Jegathesans’ son – part 2

“Jegathesan’s declaration was sent out internally in the Sathya Sai Organization (see here). It is legitimate to think about and question the scenario sketched after Jega’s own account. The evidence can always be regarded in various ways, remembering that there have already been a number of detailed reports of suicides by young male followers after sex abuse. More on the questions raised here will be posted later on”

Sathya Sai official Jegathesan’s son’s suicide – part 1

“Jegathesan also considers the critics to run a ‘vicious’ campaign. This includes the many testimonies from brave young men who – despite murders and massive persecutions of all critics of Sai Baba like David Bailey and others – have nonetheless stood forth with most credibly accurate and detailed accounts from all over the world about sexual abuse by Sathya Sai Baba!

Deluded believer in Sathya Sai Baba – Datuk J. Jegathesan

“Having stated early on in his book ‘The Fourth Dimension’:”I am no expert on the question of mediums and trance situations”, he soon begins to make very definitive statements like:- ‘I am quite certain that these “spirits” are similarly highly evolved souls etc.'”

Sai promoter, Malaysian cover-up man, J. Jegathesan

Yet numerous film clips show how Sai Baba is using sleight-of-hand and many have come to see that Sai Baba is only pretending to materialize – such as Jegathesan’s former friend, the former UK Central Coordinator Aime Levy did in the last dozen or so of his interviews! Many others have reported that they have seen this, including Conny Larsson, former head of the Swedish Sathya Sai Organization, Terry Gallagher, former head of the Australian Sathya Sai Organization, Gary Purcell, Bon Giovanni…

Datuk J. Jegathesan – on Sathya Sai Baba Miracles

“J.Jegathesan has written a series of books which include many stories of healing. His last book is called “The Fourth Dimension – Sai Baba, Journey To God Part 4“. As the title suggests it is a highly speculative book. It consists in a farrago of strange experiences, often wild interpretations of them and much hearsay. All of this shows him to be a most naive and uncritical believer in witch doctors, black magic, primitive trance mediums and much else of that kind. This is rather amazing from a man who has been an economic consultant with the United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Council on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)! However, remember that there are thousands of consultants to UN bodies, and surely few are as deluded as that”

Sathya Sai Baba Ashram Notebooks of Robert Priddy

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 17, 2008

The following material represents a valuable resource for scholars and other serious students of the exposure of Sathya Sai Baba.
I have written elsewhere of Robert Priddy’s and my cherished mutual friendship with (the late) V.K. Narasimhan (although Priddy’s spanned several years). He died March 9, 2000, aged 87. See:

V.K.Narasimhan. Late eminent Indian Editor-author

V.K.N. as this most courageous and respected Indian newspaper editor was known, succeeded Professor N. Kasturi as editor of Sanathana Sarathi, the official magazine of the Sathya Sai movement, which is distributed worldwide. He was a rare case of someone who would stand up to Sai Baba. This situation may be understood in the light that it a) served Sathya Sai Baba as a sort of reality check, b) gave some impression of freedom of speech at certain times, and c) brought many men and women of key influence to Sai Baba.
Robert Priddy kept an extensive diary, and has gone to considerable work to scan the entries. His diary entry for 5/10/95 is particularly interesting, because it shows both his and Narasimhan’s struggle to reconcile what, in retrospect, are surely irreconcilables. In short, the psychological state of denial:
Found Narasimhan at Sai Towers with Padmanabhan. Long talk. Met Devendra, Mr. Agarwal, Chris Parnell (editor of Spiritual Impressions) & Padmanaban with Narasimhan.
One the June 1993 incident N. said that what Baba told him “privately about it was not convincing”. It remains a mystery to N., who quoted Baba’s ‘Why fear when I am here’ as the reason for his bereavement over Baba allowing his elder brother to command the killing of the intruders. N. compared this to Krishna’s also Rama’s various similar exploits.

Has Sathya Sai Baba Moved An Inch To Clean Up His Yard?

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 14, 2008

My years in India furnished moving testimony to widespread harmonious relationships between Indian people of many religious and even non-religious backgrounds. This was no matter of mere tolerance but rather of most genuine acceptance of each other. Many are the instances of Indians visiting each other’s places of worship, family and other social, political and other gatherings. I was elsewhere in India during the 1984 pogrom against Muslims in the nation’s capital following the assassination of Mrs Indira Gandhi, but I was well informed that there were many instances of Hindus and others who risked their lives to protect persecuted Muslims. That is very moving.

Only last night, I was speaking with a charming student from Pakistan studying engineering in an Australian university, who very feelingly uttered a sentiment very widely encountered in the citizens at large of countries  whether one is traveling in India or Pakistan – “Left to ourselves, we get on very well, and like each other very much. It is the power people of both sides in their crazy games who threaten things for everyone!”

Sathya Sai Baba’s Back Yard Still In Deplorable State

The ailing Sathya Sai Baba has long said that he will first clean up his own ‘backyard’, India, before regenerating the whole of mankind prior to his death around 2022.

The following newspaper reports indicate an India that can all too easily be a power keg of great dimensions. As a democracy, of sorts, and though having formidable firepower across her armed services, she does not appear to be a security threat to the world at large. But what if she should self-immolate?

As a reminder that the present troubles in the state of Bihar are actually longstanding, and indeed reach far further back than this, I have included the BBC correspondant Daniel Lak’s 1999 report.

Some More Martial Minorities May Not Tolerate Attacks

The powerful emotions hinted at in the Panthic Weekly report give one pause to consider how, if non-violent and, at the same time, genuine solutions are not found, the widespread killings will not stop with actions against Christian and other small minorities. This publication reflects a worldwide powerbase (albeit by no means reflecting the opinions of all Sikhs) which attracts fairly formidable support and funding both from within India and beyond. The words used by the influential Dr. Amarjit Singh of Khalistan Affairs Center are not likely to be a mere letting off of steam:  “Sikhs ought to remember that after the Christians and Muslims it will be the turn of the Sikhs for a pogrom”.

His ominous threat of counter measures is likely to be backed by considerable resources of money, arms, training and all the rest.

Although far from achieving his aims, Mahatma Gandhi, to the end of his life, which he often risked, went to those bent on courses of destruction and helped them seek alternate solutions.

But where is Sathya Sai Baba’s cleaner back yard? It is in a frightful mess, just as is he. See:

Sathya Sai Baba Continues To Ail

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 12, 2008

Mrs Geetha Reddy, Tourism Minister of Sathya Sai Baba’s State, Andhra Pradesh, had to provide a helping hand to the supposed Divine Hand of one who said that we would not see him age after his 60’s birthday. Devotees  honest enough to admit it would have to attest that he has made many mistaken prophecies about them in interviews. He has also made them about himself, including in regard to his health and physical appearance in ensuing years.

See videos which reveal Sathya Sai Baba as unable to cut his birthday cakes any longer.

In October 2007, he precipitated a huge fiasco. See:

Sai Baba Fails to Grant Great Moon Darshan

Is Indian ‘Godman’ Sai Baba’s Moon Waning Still Further

Living and Partly Living

Living and Partly Living

Reports keep coming of him exhibiting quite senile behavior, and his minders making – sometimes very absurdist – efforts to cover up for his debility. See Sathya Sai Baba’s Tips To Keep Ageing Away

For long he has avoided public comment on the Indian political scene. However, more recently he made statements of a kind he has gone decades without making. See Sai Baba Sparks Political Furore

In a discourse at his hospital in Whitefield outside Bangalore on June 3, 1995, Sathya Sai Baba said:

“Purity, patience and perseverance. With these three you are bound to acquire good health and bliss. You may believe it or not. But the truth is that these three are responsible for my health (Arogya) and bliss (Ananda). I am always happy. I should like to run but there is no place where I can do so. I can lift anybody at this age.” (Sanathana Sarathi July 1995, p. 173)

Likewise, from Sanathana Sarathi, November 1998, we read:

Follow Me

Many people wonder that I look so young even at the age of 73. The reason is that I have three P’s in Me. One is Purity, the second is Patience and the third is Perseverance. It is because of these three that I shall remain like this for any number of years to come. (cheers. So, everyone should cultivate these three.

Every now and then, he gives an update:

“I do not suffer form any kind of disease because there is no trace of greed in Me. That is why I am always healthy…” “There is no trace of anger or hatred in Me and hence everyone loves Me” (Sanathana Sarathi September 2001, page 257f)

‘World Hindu’ by 2030. VHP’s Singhal Reports Sathya Sai Baba Told Him

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 9, 2008

One of India’s most powerful Hindu nationalist leaders, Ashok Singhal, who has an international profile in the Hindu world, has just told an assembly of political and religious luminaries in Delhi of a prophecy he says Sathya Sai Baba shared with him. The Organiser, September 14, 2008, reports:

“… Shri Singhal also threw light on how to strengthen the Hindu society and unite our great India. The VHP leader, while disclosing his discussion with Satya Sai Baba, said that Sai Baba had informed him that between 2020 and 2030 the whole India would be of Hindus and after 2030 the whole world would be of Hindus”.

Note:

The Individual referred to in the quote (right) is the international president of the VHP, which stands for Vishwa Hindu Parishad, founded by the late Swami Chinmayananda. It grew from a number of the factors that birthed  the Hindu nationalist organisation known as RSS or Rashtriya Swamyamsekak Sangh, which is very powerful, militant and highly organized. According to David James Smith, Hinduism and Modernity P189, Blackwell Publishing ISBN 0-631-20862-3 VHP general secretary, S.S. Apte, formerly a member of the RSS, stated:

“The world   has been divided to Christian, Islam and Communist. All of them view Hindu society as very fine rich food on which to feast and fatten themselves. it is necessary in this age of conflict to think of and organize the Hindu world to save it from the evils of all the three”. Quote: “In his February 16, 2007 so-called ‘divine discourse’, Sai Baba said, “I intend to undertake a world tour, shortly.” But will he? How can he? The guru, perhaps the most wealthy and politically powerful in India’s long history, claims that he will save the world in his own lifetime. He will, he says, preside over the greatest changes ever to occur in history – the Muslims being the last to accept that he is God”.

Derren Brown’s Magic Trumps Sathya Sai Baba’s

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 8, 2008

Would Sathya Sai Baba be happy to let the students in his education system see Derren Brown, the great British magician?

Derren Brown, master mind trickster who exposes his tricks
Derren Brown, master mind trickster who exposes his tricks

Or devotees to start to consider that he (SSB) is not all that he has proclaimed himself to be – which is the ALL, incarnated in the fullest expression of the Divine in the history of mankind. See The Decline and Fall of the Showman Empire

Assorted Reactions To Sai Baba’s ‘Magic’

Many Sathya Sai Baba devotees, and those who have left him, have caught him out in his tricks. Some respond almost casually by saying that it is just his “Leela” (infinite playfulness). Some go through a great wrestle, but settle with some such explanation as that he was deceiving simply to test the devotee’s faith. Still others grant that the deception was there but take refuge in events bearing considerable marks of the miraculous but which have taken place in many parts around the world, such as in devotees’ homes, and thus far away from the physical presence of their teacher. Some limply say yes he does do those tricks but look at all the good he is doing, as though good can hardly be done without the need for deception. Others are deeply alienated by the deception – sometimes related to apparent fumbling, dropping the secreted sacred ash (vibhuti) pellets that he ‘materializes’, for example, or carelessly leaving the type of objects he ‘materializes’ lying under cushions, etc., where a devotee accidentally discovers them.

Some Things Not Even Top Magicians Can Trick You About

After twenty-five years of knowing many devotees from around the world, and being present on such occasions, it is my view that the issue of apparently supra-physical events occurring around the world, but related to Sathya Sai Baba, is fraught with difficulty. There needs to be proper investigation. Certainly, the assumption that duplicity is involved does not fly. Too many of us from many countries have witnessed such occurrences (whatever may be the causative principle inherent in them) to see that they rise far above the trite, the spooky and can be quite ineffable. What is so stark a contrast is, however,  the evidence relating to his clandestine moral misconduct, and likewise of other discordances, such as, for example, the cover-up of most terrible scandals. There are, too, the high number of demonstrable anomalies in his discourses over the years, and the unfulfilled promises and prophecies. See especially Brian Steel‘s incisive work in this latter area at:

The World’s ‘Small’ and Forgotten Peoples

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 6, 2008

In my previous blog, I wrote of how Sathya Sai Baba – despite decades of stating that he will lead a spiritual revolution unparalled in mankind’s history – has profoundly failed to engage the world. ‘The backyard’, India, that he said he would first “clean up” is in parlous state. He says that the world respects him, and he and many of his handpicked speakers tell thousands of people gathered at his ashram, and over Sai Global Radio, how the world is increasingly coming to him. See When Disasters Overtake S. Sai Baba’s Promises and Sai Baba Is God Says Top George Bush Doctor

Except for constant preaching and saying that few will heed him, his impact on thinkers in the sciences, economics, politics, and so forth is not even to be compared with the effect of a gnat on the back of an elephant (to re-mint a saying of his). Read any discourse of his and one finds an extraordinary lack of engagement with the great issues that face ordinary human beings. His brief forays into science shows that he holds primitive notions. See When ‘Divine’ Magnetism Becomes A Dead Weight.

His mishmash of history, for example when he conflates early Christian history with Martin Luther’s 16th Century Protestant revolt, and gets Catholics and Protestants totally confused has to be read (after eyes have stopped widening almost beyond breaking point) to be believed? See Huge Sai Baba Gaffes

What sort of guide, then, can he be? When he can’t engage with the world’s major power players – and when his own ‘backyard’ is in such great disarray – what hope is there of his being able to better the lot of powerless groups in countries beyond, and yet the Sathya Sai Organization certainly aims to draw adherents to him in many developing countries. But those countries, despite their tragic drawbacks, are stirring to fend for themselves, as we can see below, but no thanks to Sathya Sai Baba, who would have it that all solutions reside in him and his so-called “divine organization” – the international Sathya Sai Organization, of which he says (and governments wary of powerful and deceptive cults will take due note):

“The whole world will be transformed into Sathya Sai Organisation and Sathya Sai will be installed in the hearts of one and all.” (Sanathana Sarathi, January 1999 – page 16)

Who Thinks of the Small Countries (apart from evangelization)?

Of course, all countries face threats posed by global warming and other hazards to sustainable life on this planet. But let us consider those peoples who have no systems of prior disaster warning nor infrastructure to deal with evacuation, provision of utilities, disaster relief, resettlement, and so on. Without world authorities facing – no, confronting – the formidable polluters and other profoundly conscienceless vested interests both great and small, these small and defenceless countries are lost. I was recently speaking with a local person, one of Australia’s top geophysicists until he retired. He said that he and his colleagues were warning Australian governments over the last forty years that great hazards, some of them resulting from human despoliation of the planet, lay ahead, but were consistently ignored, and commercial interests and political considerations allowed to hold sway.

Parts of the world are especially terribly attacked by the hazards of climate change, such as rising sea levels, vast drought and flood, freakish and violent weather conditions and so forth. There is a monumental threat to the earth as a whole.

But one may spare extra thought for those small countries who can do far less about it than the developed nations, whose quest for wealth, high security and ultra comfort has triggered off so many of the problems. Here is but one of many examples, where the larger nations, including my own, Australia, are ignoring the plight of those who come to them in anguish:

“The leaders of Tuvalu-a tiny island country in the Pacific Ocean midway between Hawaii and Australia-have conceded defeat in their battle with the rising sea, announcing that they will abandon their homeland. After being rebuffed by Australia, the Tuvaluans asked New Zealand to accept its 11,000 citizens, but it has not agreed to do so”. Rising Sea Level Forcing Evacuation of Island Country”. Lester R. Brown. Earth Policy Institute. November 15, 2001

Desperate Smaller Countries Sticking Up For Themselves

Before the UN Security Council meets in a few days, many of these smaller countries are petitioning the body to take measures to protect their very existence. Here is one of the actions taken by a number of countries: Canada, Fiji, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, Palau,Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Turkey,Tuvalu, Vanuatu – in Draft Resolution 2 September 2008:

Deeply concerned that the adverse impacts of climate change, including sea-level rise, trigger population relocation and threaten the territorial integrity and sovereignty of some states, thus endangering international peace and security (this group)

1. Invites the Security Council to consider and address, as appropriate, the threat posed by climate change to international peace and security;

2. Invites the Security Council to work with the General Assembly to develop
recommendations with regard to the international peace and security implications of climate change;

3. Requests the Secretary-General, to report to the General Assembly at its sixty-third session on the international peace and security implications of climate change and on the actions taken by the Security Council in this regard.

When Disasters Overtake S. Sai Baba’s Promises

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 4, 2008

There are Sathya Sai Baba devotees in some of the highest echelons of power in various countries. Their faith in him may be touching but not likely to be fulfilled. Despite various statements such as that that he would not age or get sick, he looks fragile and decrepit, increasingly muttering oddities and making egregious blunders. See Sathya Sai Baba’s Tips To Keep Ageing Away.
turkey-throathaggard-

He has said:

Usually old people have wrinkles on their faces … I do not have any signs of old age. (loud applause). There is not a single wrinkle on My face”. Sanathana Sarathi, October, 2002.

Not only does he have a sagging face that has more than a trace of some degenerative disease – giving him a mask-like expression, but for the last few years he has developed what is called ‘Turkey’s Throat’, aptly named.

Given his failed promises to stay looking young, how can any reliance be put in his promises of 1. First saving India and 2. Saving the rest of the world – and all this within the span of his own lifetime?

Faith of Major Power Brokers in Failed ‘Avatar’ of Great Concern

That his extraordinary claims are taken with ultimate seriousiousness by so many in positions of grave responsibility at highest levels in government, politics, the judiciary, high finance, the armed services, police, diplomacy, industry, science, philanthropy, etc., is surely of concern. Here are but a few of his statements over time:

“Sai holds the universe in his hand” (Conversations with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba (1993) by Dr. J. Hislop. Sathya Sai Publications and Book Trust, Puttaparthi.)

“I will have to forego the car and even the aeroplane when I move from place to place, for the crowds pressing around them will be too huge; I will have to move across the sky; yes, that too will happen, believe Me.” (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. II, p. 92)

“Nothing can impede or halt the work of this Avathaara… Formerly when the Govardhanagiri (mountain) was raised aloft by a little boy, the gopis and gopalas realised that Krishna was the Lord. Now, it is not one Govardhanagiri , a whole range will be lifted, you will see!” (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 3, p. 106)

“The whole world will be transformed into Sathya Sai Organisation and Sathya Sai will be installed in the hearts of one and all.” (Sanathana Sarathi, January 1999 – page 16)

Most of the Planet Does Not Know of Sathya Sai Baba

He says – whether with self-deception or more than a word of a lie – “Today the whole world is respecting Me.” (Sanathana Sarathi, Sept. 2003, p 267). In fact, most in the rest of the world have no way of knowing anything about him, least of all the people of small nations and other groupings – most of them very poor. See Human Rights World Report 2008. India In Sore Shape

If he has so abysmally failed to “clean up (his) own backyard, as he long ago promised to do, then how is he going to clean up the rest of the world?

Exposing Worldwide Sathya Sai Baba Cult (Sept 08,i)

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 4, 2008

The following, mostly short, articles have appeared at:

http://robertpriddy.wordpress.com and

https://barrypittard.wordpress.com and, in one case, at Robert Priddy’s main website –

Sathya Sai Baba In Word And Action

in the last few days. The following information is compiled at:

http://www.saibaba-x.org.uk/HOME/Sai_Baba_news.htm

where there is an extensive list of blogs and articles, with the latest updates  clearly noted.

Barry Pittard. 4 September, 2008

……………………………..

NEW Sai Baba says his close servants live for 100 years However the very closest long-term attendants including his official biographer, Prof. N. Kasturi, his editor of his journal V.K. Narasimhan, Kutumba Rao, his pujari Padmanabha Shastri, Kanhaia Jee, and many another died well before reaching 100 years.

NEW Sathya Sai Baba’s untruths about his never-failing perfect health He claims always to have total perfect health and freedom from illness, but numerous facts belie his claims, even his own words do.

NEW Human Rights World Report 2008. India In Sore Shape World report 2008 in marked conflict with Sathya Sai Baba’s promises made over many decades. He has said that he would first “save” India and then the rest of the world – this within his own lifetime.

NEW Michael Goldstein’s chilling remarks Goldstein states that no Sai baba devotees were victims of the 9/11 World Trade Centre terrorist attack. He claims “His Miraculous Intervention on behalf of His devotees is clearly evident… They were either late or never arrived…”

NEW Sathya Sai Baba and India in-depth study Many issues covered, such as India’s profound levels of corruption and superstition, other issues that thinking Indians have great concern about like the appalling record in human rights, casteism, endemic corruption, attitudes towards women etc.

NEW Sathya Sai Baba – Proof of the pudding Does Sai Baba ever lift a finger to look after his food, clothing, rooms, cars or anything? Yet he claims he receives NO service whatever from anyone! Further he says he has always respected everyone – but he has attacked his critics with base lies and demonised them. He claims the whole world respects him, but which of his critics do? And how can billions who have never heard of him respect him?

NEW ‘World Avatar’ Sathya Sai Baba’s Troubled Trail The eyes of faith are blind to the absurdities – or, if the oddities are pointed out to his believers, they will justify them in one way or another – for example, by citing his oft-stated saying “Love Me for My mystery”. The Procrustean bed works by both length and width.

NEW Sathya Sai Lies – part one A new series documenting and commenting on lies and untruths told in his writings and/or discourses by Sathya Sai Baba, who alleges he always speaks only truth and is omniscient as to past, present and future! He has no money or properties – but then he speaks of giving money himself! He does not publicise himself, but he does so on a huge scale constantly. He claimed his critics take money to defame him, but none are known or shown to have every accepted money from anywhere.

NEW Sathya Sai Baba Says He Dislikes Pomp One of the world’s most avid consumers of pomp and circumstance, golden thrones, sumptuous apartments – seen in countless photos on the Internet – claims he does not like it, but he either sets all of it in motions himself, or gives his blessing to such suggestions by others.

Human Rights World Report 2008. India In Sore Shape

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 2, 2008

The Human Rights Watch World Report 2008 is in marked conflict with Sathya Sai Baba’s promises made over many decades. He has said that he would first save India and then the rest of the world – this within his own lifetime.
An India S. Sai Baba Has Said He Would Save

Depicts an India very different to the Sathya Sai Baba mythos. He said he would, in his own lifetime (he is in his 8th decade!), first 'clean up (his) own back yard', India, and then save the rest of the world

His millions of followers hear his blatantly untrue statements but remain silent and blindly pin their faith on him as they do his pictures on their walls. They come from most countries around the world and know only too well the profound error of a statement of his such as:

“Today the whole world is respecting Me.” (Sanathana Sarathi, Sept. 2003, p 267).

One of his many unfulfilled predictions was made to a longtime foremost devotee, Connie Shaw, who is among several chief disseminators of the Sai mythos. Her books carry titles such as Wake Up Laughing: My Miraculous Life with Sai Baba. She is more widely sought after as a visionary by ‘New Age’ enthusiasts, and another of her books is titled Mary’s Miracles and Prophecies: Intimate Revelations of a Visionary.

She reports of her interview with Sathya  Sai Baba on her 31st visit to him in 2002:

Baba: Really, no joking (He made some invisible writing in the air) … five years more. In 2007 there will be no more war. Peace on earth.

Connie: Five more years?! Then really, truly the war will be over?”

Baba: Yes, you will see.

Source, an official S. Sai Baba website: http://www.saibaba.ws/reports/connieshaw.htm

But the picture imparted by such a major source as the section on India in  Human Rights Watch World Report 2008 is very different to these rosy scenarios so widely touted by Sathya Sai Baba propagandists as Connie Shaw, and, indeed, by himself. The point should be made clear that many heads of the very police and military forces involved are, from time to time, seen bowing down to Sathya Sai Baba at Puttaparthi. So too are the current President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil who has been known for fine work among the poor but, like so many top echelon Indian leaders across the political spectrum, will not look, as was the case with the last Indian President,  Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, into the hard evidence against Sathya Sai Baba. Another of his visitors is the current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has no excuse for the monumental Sathya Sai Baba cover-ups because he and his top associates, as was the case of his immediate predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee, are known to hold many facts highly inimical to Sathya Sai Baba. A series of Indian heads of state, irrespective of party affiliation have cooperated in the profound cover-up of scandals involving Sathya Sai Baba, and as one of India’s top newspaper editors privately told me – he and his organization are too powerful to take on.

From the World Report 2008, I have extracted some major points:

Armed Conflicts and Security Force Impunity India claims an abiding commitment to human rights, but its record is marred by continuing violations by security forces in counterinsurgency operations and by government failure to rigorously implement laws and policies to protect marginalized communities. A vibrant media and civil society continue to press for improvements, but without tangible signs of success in 2007

………………………..

The government has yet to root out the policies responsible for the violations, and continues to grant virtual impunity to perpetrators. Despite signing a new United Nations treaty to combat forced disappearances in February 2007, the Indian government is yet to launch a credible independent investigation into alleged disappearances and fake “encounter killings” throughout the country.

………………………..

In February 2007, police investigations into a “missing persons” case in Jammu and Kashmir exposed a problem long alleged by human rights groups: people were being killed in custody by security forces who constructed fake armed encounters, staging executions to look like acts of defense.

………………………..

In April 2007, a working group on Jammu and Kashmir recommended the repeal of laws sanctioning impunity, such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, but the government has failed to act.

………………………..

The Maoists find support among the rural poor, who feel left out by India’s modernization process and surging economic growth. Unfortunately, these same vulnerable groups also suffer at the hand of the Maoists because of the latter’s illegal taxes and demands for food and shelter. Succumbing to such extortion puts civilians at risk of retaliation by security forces.

………………………..

In 2007 there was still no progress in investigating thousands of secret cremations in the northern state of Punjab. Following a spate of violent attacks by Sikh militants starting in the early 1980s, security forces illegally detained, tortured, executed, or “disappeared” thousands of people during counterinsurgency operations.

………………………..

Failure of Relocation and Rehabilitation Policies
Tremendous economic growth and plans for industrial development and infrastructure building have uprooted millions of traders, farmers, and landless laborers. Protests by affected groups are ignored and often brutally curbed through excessive use of force.

………………………..

In March 2007, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) urged the government to take effective measures to protect Dalits and tribal groups. Dalits and indigenous peoples (known as Scheduled Tribes or adivasis) continue to face discrimination, exclusion, and acts of communal violence. Laws and policies adopted by the Indian government provide a strong basis for protection, but are not being faithfully implemented by local authorities. Instead of addressing these concerns, the Indian government insists that caste is not the same as race and therefore discrimination based on caste and tribe falls outside the mandate of CERD.

………………………..

The Indian government, however, has failed to prosecute most of those who instigate or participate in religious mob violence.

………………………..

After more than a decade of hearings, a special court convicted 100 people for their involvement in the 1993 serial bomb attacks in Mumbai. However, the individuals believed responsible for attacks upon Muslims in January 1993 which preceded the bomb blasts are yet to be prosecuted and punished.

………………………..

Despite promises made by the prime minister in 2005, there was also no progress in justice for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

………………………..

Human Rights Defenders
In Chattisgarh state, which experienced more Maoist violence than any other state in 2007, civil society organizations have come under attack in a classic example of “punishing the messenger.” Prominent human rights defender Dr. Binayak Sen was detained for his alleged contact with the Maoist groups. Several journalists and other human rights activists said that they had been threatened by government officials.

Failure to Protect Children’s Rights
Despite a scheme launched three years ago to provide universal education, millions of children in India still have no access to education and work long hours, many as bonded laborers. Many children continue to be forced into becoming soldiers in areas where there are armed conflicts, or are trafficked for marriage, sex work, or employment. Others languish in substandard orphanages or detention centers.

Rights of Those Living with HIV/AIDS
New estimates of people living with HIV/AIDS place the number at around 2.5 million, excluding children under age 15. Children and adults living with HIV/AIDS, as well as those whose marginalized status puts them at highest risk—sex workers, injection drug users, and men who have sex with men—face widespread stigmatization and discrimination, including denial of employment, access to education, orphan care, and healthcare.

………………………..

Rights of Women
India has a mixed record on women’s rights: despite recent improvements in legal protections, gender-based discrimination and violence remain deeply entrenched. The low status of women and girls is revealed by the skewed sex ratio of 933 females for every 1,000 males and the high rate of preventable maternal deaths, with one woman dying in childbirth every five minutes.

………………………..

Key International Actors
India claims that its growing economic power should give it more clout in global diplomacy, seeking a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and a leading role in the Commonwealth and the Non Aligned Movement. However, it has yet to show that it can play a serious global role in pushing for greater adherence to international human rights standards.

………………………..

While India has strong economic and strategic ties with the United States and the European Union, it has refused to engage in constructive dialogue on its own failures in protecting human rights. Governments have been reluctant to challenge India in part because they do not want to risk upsetting relations with an important economic and trade partner.

………………………..

India’s regional policies are often determined by strategic concerns over China’s increasing influence in South Asia, and this often contributes to decisions by officials to avoid proactive engagement on human rights issues.

………………………..

After the Burmese junta’s brutal crackdown on pro-democracy activists in September 2007, India simply issued statements calling for a peaceful settlement of the issue. India at this writing had not used its military sales and business dealings with the junta to press for accountability and respect for human rights standards.

Michael Goldstein’s Chilling 9/11 Remarks

Posted by Barry Pittard on September 1, 2008

Chairman of the worldwide Sathya Sai Organization, Dr Michael Goldstein of Covina, southern California – once in an email widely circulated to the Sai cult devotees – made extraordinary statements about 9/11.

Become A Sai Devotee And Get Terrorist-Proof

Here is the statement from Dr Goldstein, a medical doctor of Covina, California, USA. A second reading may be required before the enormity of his statement quite sinks in.

“A number of reports have been received from (Sai Baba) devotees indicating that our Beloved Swami prevented many of his devotees from being injured or killed in the World Trade Center where they are employed or had meetings scheduled. His Miraculous Intervention on behalf of His devotees is clearly evident… They were either late or never arrived…”

Dr Michael Goldstein also stated at a public meeting in Buenos Aires, attended by some 1500 Sathya Sai Baba devotees, October 20, 2001:

“There are many (Sai Baba) devotees that worked in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon… And none of them went to work that day, or they arrived late…all the New York and Washington devotees are safe…”

More sinking-in to do …

Dr Michael Goldstein. Love All Serve All

Dr Michael Goldstein. Love All Serve All

Silence – A Cult’s Second ‘Language’

This is the same Michael Goldstein who, along with Sathya Sai Baba’s very carefully-chosen core servitors, has remained silent about crucial Sai cult facts for many years. For example,  about the (also enormous) fact that those many who have left the international Sathya Sai Organization were for decades regarded in that fold as fine citizens, good parents, tireless and dedicated workers in the social and uplift programs of the organization, esteemed in their trades and professions and communities at large, and so on.

In short, it is singular that those who so often utter notions of truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence can remain silent in the face of the very  denial of these qualities. That is to say, stand aside and allow others to form mistaken judgements that assume the sudden terribleness of people whom Sathya Sai Baba devotees have for decades regarded as evidencing these fine  qualities.

Sathya Sai Baba Cult Cultivates Mainstream Organizations

Those in government, civic, interfaith and other mainstream organs have a right to question Goldstein and other Sathya Sai Baba leaders who so assiduously cultivate them to question why a great organization like the BBC – see BBC Hidden Camera in ‘Secret Swami’. Ethical? – would take the unusual resort of using a hidden camera in interviewing Dr Goldstein:

They can ask – is it true that:

  • Those formerly in excellent standing with your organization have left it?
  • That they had made their own investigations among the families, claiming that their young male family members had given very disturbing accounts of Sathya Sai Baba sexually abusing them?
  • They came to you, Dr Goldstein, in great distress and you dismissed their concerns and failed to act in a way that any ethical organization today would do? (Not to mention that you are a medical doctor)
  • There were extensive cover-ups regarding the June 6, 1993 killings in Sathya Sai Baba’s bedroom?
  • There have been serious scams over the years in regard to the purchase by devotees of apartments at your guru’s ashram?
  • Your teacher claims not only that all are God but the he is the world saviour who will save the whole world from the direst catastrophes within the span of his own lifetime?

These are but starter questions …
