Sathya Sai Baba Chief, Dr Goldstein, Explodes. “I am the consummate professional” (See Film Clips)

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 27, 2009

The clickable film clips, see below, from the BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami’ documentary show a great deal about the soul of a cult’s top organizational leader, Dr Michael Goldstein (USA), in every few seconds. The bombast, anger and authoritarianism seen within the core leadership of the Sathya Sai cult are often hidden, including from the rank-and-file members. But in 2004, the BBC decided it was time to tear away the heavy mask.  See also the article:

Have You Met Them Yet?

For by their real fruits they – if after years of effort to expose them – shall be known. These are organization heads of considerable power. That they should not be opened to account is one of the recurring absurdities among Sathya Sai Baba’s proxy defenders on the Internet (who have links to high-ranking luminaries in the organization, which they do not disclose)

The chances are that this cult operates in or not so far from your own house, town or city. It attempts to link up with reputable mainstream civic, religious and governmental instrumentalities. Its members are mandated not to bring to your attention that its founder, Sai Baba, claims that he is God fully incarnate in a manner that has never been seen in history, and that, in his own life, he will draw all the contending religions into harmony and save the world in the direst peril mankind has ever encountered.

The Secret Swami’s Hidden Agendas

Should you point out to many devotees that Sai Baba says he is God, their stock answer is:  “But you see, Baba says that we are all God but we have not realized it yet”.  A recently documented slight variant of this response can be seen in the video footage of charismatic Sai Baba cult leader Moyia O’Brien’s response to the Australian television interviewer Chris Allen on Channel NineMSN: ‘Infiltrating A Cult’. (A close television source confirms that threats by the Sai Baba cultists to the Channel have been made. Details are available for responsible media or other investigators). To click on the footage, go to the articles:

Michael Goldstein: What do you mean by thorough investigation?

2’nd Interviewer: Objective investigators, not someone asking the perpetrator whether he, he carried out the act. But someone, you know, a proper legal process or a legalistic process should I say.

Tanya Datta: Yes.

Michael Goldstein: Because I don’t believe that’s appropriate with Sai Baba.

2’nd Interviewer: Why not?

Michael Goldstein: Because my heart and my conscience tell me that it’s not possible.

All of these years I’ve seen him interact with his students very, very frequently, in very informal circumstances over many, many years. And because I am a physician I also understand human behaviour. Because of that, if Sai Baba had done anything of this kind with any one of those boys at any time, ever, I would see something in one of those children’s eyes, I would see something in one of the expressions on their faces that would indicate to me fear, apprehension, depression, something unsavoury, something inappropriate, something scary, something ominous, I would know it in my heart because I am what I am a consummate professional. Can you understand that?

The international Sathya Sai Organization leaders have profoundly failed in the most fundamental duties of care. This, in the democratic world, when accountability and proper processes have become de jure.

The BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami’ (Sai Baba). Revealing Footage

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 24, 2009

The clips from the BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami, quite apart from the hour-long documentary are in themselves revealing.
Alert and independent viewing – observing body language, tone of voice, and so forth – will allow the view to come to their own conclusions, and follow their own enquiries in their various countries. It has long been independent investigation by individuals in their own regions of the world who have been able to discover the appalling facts quite without the aid of those of us who have written extensively, such as Robert Priddy and Brian Steel.
An important series of clips and pages of related information is to be found here at the Sathya Sai Baba News, Photo and Video Gallery.
Sai Baba’s propagandists do all manner of acrobatics in attempting to defame those many around the world who have raised critical questions about him and his worldwide organization. Those maligned by those such as Dr G.Venkataraman and Sai Baba’s proxy networked defenders on the Internet include the BBC, The Times of London, The Telegraph, The Guardian, and so on. Venkataraman is the deputy chairman of the international Sathya Sai Organization and head of Sai Global Harmony, whose stated aim it is to penetrate every corner of the world with Sathya Sai Baba and his message. Sathya Sai Baba: ‘Considerable Concern’ In Wider Hindu Community

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 21, 2009

Some of Sathya Sai Baba’s propagandists, and many devotees, strive to make it appear that an assertion disfavouring him is an assertion against Hinduism and India.

In actual fact, a great many Hindus do not at all approve of Sai Baba, as anyone who has travelled extensively in India or who knows many non-resident Indians knows only too well.

A Simple Test to Guage Sathya Sai Baba’s Wider Prestige

A small but powerful test:  simply,  if you are not Indian, ask your Indian friends their reaction to the name Mahatma Gandhi

Father of modern India, but 'belonging' to the world

Loved 'Father' of modern India, but 'belonging' to the world

or Shirdi Sai Baba

Shirdi Sai Baba. Great renunciate and servant of all

Shirdi Sai Baba. Great renunciate and servant of all

and then their reaction to the name Sathya  Sai Baba.

For Pomp and Sai-cumstance Baba (Puttaparthi Sai)

More gold for Pomp and Sai-cumstance Baba (Puttaparthi Sai)

Sathya Sai Baba in pure golden pomp and circumstance

Sathya Sai. All that glitters is not true gold.

The qualitative difference of reaction to your question (which is actually about what constitutes true gold) will commonly be altogether striking.

Many Indians – Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians, Buddhists, Humanists, Rationalists and so on – are appalled by the incredibly lavish pomp and circumstance that surround Sathya Sai Baba. They do not want his going around in a golden chariot and all the rest of the panoply to represent the greatness of their country. See:

Sai Baba’s Birthday. Vast, Costly Pomp and Ceremony

Sai Baba, Citizen Kane, Bill Gates, Et Alia.

Interfaith Movement Far Ahead of Sathya Sai Baba In Bringing Mutual Diolog

Moreover, the ‘sarva dharma’ (respect for all faiths) emphasis that Sai Baba has long driven is not repaid by any significant signs that the officials of the world’s religions have recognized Sai Baba. It is abundantly clear that the interfaith movement throughout the world has done infinitely more effective work in getting divers faiths talking to each other in amity. See:

Muslim Leaders Initiative Bold. Sai Baba’s Efforts Fail

(I have written elsewhere – Saudi King Abdullah: Jews, Muslims, Christians Must Diolog – of the interfaith call by King Abdulla of Saudi Arabia. It is a very partial one. At least millions round the world who know nothing of Sathya Sai Baba have heard of King Abdulla. If any such friendly get-togethers were to occur among  the Muslims, Jews and Christians to whom the king refers, there would need to be the focused avoidance of any entanglement in the  harsh world of realpolitik – in which King Abdulla is no doubt highly troubled by Iran, which is a non-Arab country).

‘Considerable Concern Among the Hindu Community’

A major Hindu leader (to whom on request I shall gladly direct responsible and reputable media) once wrote to me:

“There is considerable concern among the Hindu Community, especially among the educated. It is very hard to get any action from the temples as they do not wish to cause difficulties with the Sathya Sai Baba groups. People are starting to distance themselves from Sathya Sai Baba. It’s going to be gradual process of education. The biggest impact it appears was the ‘The Secret Swami’ … it seems it has had a tremendous negative effect on Sathya Sai Baba”.

An example in which a major leader in the Sathya Sai Baba movement can be seen, with great slides of fallacious reasoning, playing the culture ‘card’ as though the case for Sai Baba is somehow settled among “the Asian Community” is Ashok Bhagani, head of the Sathya Sai Baba Organization in the UK. Referring to the BBC’s The Secret Swami, he told The Asian Voice, June 26, 2004):

“I saw the documentary on Thursday and it made my blood boil. The BBC is a premier channel and it was irresponsible of them to show a totally one-sided, biased and unbalanced documentary that they knew may stir something amongst many members of the Asian community”.

Tony McNulty Sathya Sai Baba Cult Supporter Tipped As UK Home Minister

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 18, 2009

Rosemary Bennett’s article in The London Times (Public Sector) last Friday may indicate that things are stirring for Tony McNulty MP for Harrow East, and David Leppard’s piece of last Sunday 15th in The Sunday Times, suggests that the British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith may be replaced at the Home Office by Tony McNulty.

Tony McNulty British MP. Sathya Sai Baba Behind Him

British Labour MP Tony McNulty, well known for his many appearances at Sai Baba functions, with Sathya Sai Baba right behind him (in photo and perhaps literally. Consituency duties? Or something more)

Sai Global Harmony (affiliated with WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service) Aiming To Penetrate British Airwaves

The Home Office job for McNulty may strengthen his advocacy, already known to have occurred, of a major satellite radio transmitter in the UK which already broadcasts the Sathya Sai Baba cult’s propaganda to many countries.  Operated by Sathya Sai Central trust , the attempt is to spread Sai Baba’s evangel to every corner of the earth. The director is Dr G. Venkataraman, formerly a core member of India’s nuclear science community, who was Vice-Chancellor of Sai Baba’s university in Puttaparthi, South India. Venkataraman is now deputy chairman of the International Sathya Sai Organization. The broadcasting wing, Sai Global Harmony, is affiliated with WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service, and broadcasts 24/7 to many countries. See:

Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘Minister of Propaganda’ – Dr G. Venkataraman

Followers Forbidden To Tell Public That Sai Baba is God Fully Incarnate, and About To Save Whole World

What the Sai Global Harmony broadcasts and other organs of the organization deliberately leave out of public account is that Sai Baba’s civicly and politically well-connected devotees in many countries around the world are committed to infiltrating mainstream civic, political and religious establishments in preparation for his ‘miraculous’ leadership of the world.  See:

Secret Swami’ Cult Recruits At Prime Public Venues

Sathya Sai Oganization Lavish Spending On Superdome Venue Meeting

The Sathya Sai Organization’s Damage-Limitation By Internal Report

Dominic Kennedy and his London Times team did some good work back in 2001 (see Urls below). The wealthy Sathya Sai Baba sect promotes itself aggressively worldwide and frequently in a clandestine way. Hence, the BBC’s title “The Secret Swami” (in its 2004 television documentary).

The full hidden agenda and misuse of notions of ‘religious freedom’ would amaze the wider public. And would amaze many rank-and-file members, whom the core leaders keep well insulated.

I shall shortly recontextualize and post questions I sketched in February 2007 in case at any time the British media would start asking them. Or you can go straight to the article itself:  Ashok Bhagani – Footsying With Top Blair Minister?

The Ashok Bhagani referred to is the head of the Sathya Sai Baba cult in the UK, and his daughter is a Tony McNulty staffer – more recently, one hears, working reduced hours.

Bhagani’s blustering performance, which outrightly defames many former Sathya Sai Baba devotees esteemed for decades throughout the Sathya Sai Organization, is to be read HERE:   BBC Radio 4 – Sunday 19, November 2000 – 7.30 am.  Interview with Stephen Perry – with:  David Bailey (UK), former closest Western devotee; Mick Brown, Daily Telegraph journalist (UK); Jed Geyerhahn (USA), Steen Piculell, Ashok Bhagani, Trustee, UK Sathya Sai Organisation.

Is Sathya Sai Baba Backing Tony McNulty MP In More Ways Than In The Photo (see picture above)

It is to be hoped that the British media probes to see whether McNulty’s office receives funds from the Sathya Sai Organization or its representatives, such as Bhagani.  Public information about MPs’ financial support and donations should be properly declared.

I wonder whether the Rosemary Bennett and David Leppard articles will set alarm bells ringing for more than a few Conservative Party activists still not sure whether the election of a Tory government is certain. A view shared by many in the UK is that the Tory leadership is, since it senses victory in the upcoming general election, being in some sensitive respects very muted at the moment.

But for those attempting to draw public attention to the wealthy and powerful Sathya Sai Baba cult, the prospect of more power for Tony McNulty causes concern. If he gets the plumb post in the Home Ministry, it is yet another blow for those who wish to see British parliamentarians more questioning of the cults in their midst.

Cult’s Cry Freedom But Breech It Repeatedly

This questioning must not, of course, sacrifice crucial safeguards to religious freedom.

However, it needs to be realised that cults who cry out about religious freedom profoundly abuse it in actual practice. They are secretive, authoritarian and unaccountable – whatever may be their outer manifestation as solely, and almost saintly, the agents of worthwhile social uplift work.

For a recent example of this sort of duplicity, see major Australian television broadcaster NineMSN exposure of the Sathya Sai cult leader Moyia O’Brien and the cult’s grip over the social service organization SWARA, in Brisbane:

When Indian Media Coat Tails Foreign Media. Did Freedom Happen?

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 13, 2009

Leaving aside, of course, the occasional exception like the mass circulation magazine India Today, when it acted on submissions from networked former devotees in a number of countries, we have not had much joy from the Indian media.  See:

Exposure of Sathya Sai Baba. Media Source List

A further breakthrough of sorts occurred when the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) likewise took seriously our work in regard to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards-Sathya Sai Baba connection.  See:

A Duke Stops An Emperor. Edinburgh Routs Sai Baba

Would that IANS had been on the scene when the range and penetration of its services might have got more news to India of the BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami’ (2004). Its own self-perception is that it is: “an independent and integrated media company with no affiliation with any major business house, political or ideological group”. And that it breaks “through the often cliched and stereotyped reporting about India with objective and unbiased news, views and analyses that portray the country, and the region, in a global perspective”.

IANS certainly broke through to many Indian media that had long refused to run with our stories in regard to the Sai Baba cult (whether Indian or international).

Overseas Indians (NRI’s) Can Get News Strongly Suppressed In Indian Media

The situation has long been fraught with irony. We have been able to get so many major quality international media interested in our accounts, while India maintained a steep wall of censorship, so that non-resident Indians (NRI’s) around the world were able to access other points of view about Sathya Sai Baba, and their kindred in India were not .

It scarcely reflects well on an Indian media that only when, for example, a major newspaper like The Guardian ran Paul Lewis’s story The Indian living god, the paedophilia claims and the Duke of Edinburgh awards that there was a response. One had thought a modicum of self-respect had been gained as a result of India’s struggle for freedom.

But, then, we know that royalty sells. Just like sex. Perhaps it was simply an unbeatable combination.

The British Empire fell. But will that of Sathya Sai Baba? See:

A Top Indian Editor Says:  Sai Baba Too Powerful To Take On

Like media barons anywhere, Indian media proprietors frequently have the sharpest eye for sales.  This factor is more pronounced in developing countries like India, where corruption and lack of proper regulation are so rife.   An editor of one of India’s top handful of newspapers, who knew of my work, told me privately that Sathya Sai Baba and his people were far too powerful to do anything about. Indeed, his own newspaper had Sai Baba people in plenteous supply from top to bottom, including a Sai Baba power wielder. Of course, he might just as easily have named not a few other powerfully influential gurus to whom the power brokers of India have so chronically and for so long run. Travel anywhere in India and you find, when you get into frank conversation, that many Indians despair of the grip of these endemic, nepotistic, quite often overtly or covertly caste-ridden power blocs. Will A Newer India Throw Off Old Oppressions?

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 10, 2009

As India edges towards superpower status, we see a newer and more confident generation.

It is a long time since I taught at the Sathya Sai college at Whitefield, (via Bangalore, South India), having a wonderful teaching experience in all three years of the Bachelor’s Course, where there were students from various classes from villages to palaces. It was moving to see what was emerging.

When I first went to India, it was only thirty years away from India’s Independence, which she gained  on August 14, 1947.   In his famous ‘Tryst With Destiny’ speech, her first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. A 'tryst with destiny'

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. A 'tryst with destiny'

spoke of a time:

“when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance….. We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again”

The historic perspective was the gradual annexation by the British East India Company from the middle of the 18th century and India’s subsequent crippling experience of British rule. And, much earlier to that, the waves of Mughal invasion and expansion.

Of course, uncomfortable passages between older and rising generations is, everywhere, the very stuff of great literary preoccupation. As I recently discussed, India, like other old cultures, has a millennial tradition for respect for elders. It is a very cohesive force, and young cultures that do not have it in such abundance are in deepest trouble.

Among other effects, this means that ruling class parents as they move from the direct hub of power can – whether now dead or old – peer all the more hauntingly over their children’s and grand children’s shoulders. There are minuses here as well, as in the example of nepotism, to cite but one example, for there can be the continuance of social and religious oppressions on a wide scale.

Those of India’s more visionary thinkers and planners who can see India’s way out of trouble – without leaving matters up to the so-called democratizations of a gross and rampant capitalism – will be her new heroes.

For the young Indian elites, the excitements and material rewards of their finding themselves at the helm of a superpower may accede all too much to the work of statecraft and and of a getting-‘there’-quick. One may pray that they may not and that they achieve mature balances between realpolitik and humane governance.

It is to be hoped that their rise will usher in a new India, a shining one in which what glitters is far more than gold, and in which, while maintaining her incredibly rich and varied culture, the young will throw off India’s international image (not in every respect a correct one) as a land of vast superstition and of endemic corruption, social turmoil, private opulence and public squalor.

India’s Chronic Addiction To anachronistic Gurus. Any Sea-change?

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 7, 2009

India has lonf suffered the grip on her life of powerful, corrupt gurus. Since the 196o’s many thousands of foreigners – especially westerners – have gone there in search of their soul. Frequently, they have gone to the ashram of gurus, little realising that the factors in human nature that degrade the ideals of philosophies in their own culture are the same ones, though often in very different dress, are the same factors of degradation that exist in the institutions of their own cultural milieu. Each society has their own depiction of them. Since early Christian times, there have been the list of ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’, which the Catholic Church codified thus:

  1. luxuria (lechery/lust)
  2. gula (gluttony)
  3. avaritia (avarice/greed)
  4. acedia (acedia/discouragement)
  5. ira (wrath)
  6. invidia (envy)
  7. superbia (pride)

Devotees of gurus in the long Hindu traditions are familiar with the list of six primary ills that that Sathya Sai Baba would frequently reel off in his discourses and in interviews. These are the The Six Passions (or Enemies) of Mind, called the Ari-shadvarga:

kama : lust; krodha : anger; lobha : greed; moha ; delusion; madamaathsarya : envy;

There is nothing amiss with such codifications, so long as they are not used for striking puritanical fear into human beings. And here lies the problem, many gurus in India, just as in many ‘priestcrafts’ elsewhere use such classifications to enslave. Given that profound superstition in virtually all quarters of Indian life, one wonders whether new generations in India’s ruling elites can rid themselves of the oppressions that are so deeply embedded.

Can India find a solution to the embarrassment that attends the spectacle of a great many foreigners – especially Westerners – drawn to her shores in search of replacement for their own abandoned belief systems, and, often, being profoundly misled?

The extreme grip of the gerontocratic, nepotistic and corrupt political old guard in India (and other power sectors) is now, in a post modern world, rapidly being culled by mortality striking down those who deadly grip on power has lasted for so long.

It does not matter which party or coalition of parties rules. There has long been the obsequious running to highly flawed gurus and astrologers. They are wrong in their predictions, and the leaders so often reliant of a huge network of astrologers.  The same mental befuddlement can be seen in those devotees of Sathya Sai Baba, who blind themselves to his many mistaken predictions and unfulfilled promises. At his ashram, too, we see a long processions of Indian Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers, Presidents and Vice Presidents and other social elites flocking to his ashram in Puttaparthi. Manmohan Singh, the current Prime Minister, is no exception.  Atal Behari Vajpayee, the previous Prime Minister was a long-declared devotee.

One wonders where is the pride at being Indian, when there is such reliance on the inpouring of billions of dollars, over time, that Sathya Sai Baba, along, what to speak of other gurus, suction in from foreign sources.

Only feebleness and death release the claw-like deadly hands of State. Their talented heirs (often the children and relatives of the old guard) and aspirants of a younger generation increasingly make their run to assert a modernity.  See:

But at their backs they always hear the old-timers’ blinking chariots hurrying near (if I may twist to haplessness the English poet Andrew Marvell).

Australian Current Affair Exposes Sathya Sai Baba Cult

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 5, 2009

From time to time, international coordinators, such as Robert Priddy, the late Glen Meloy, and, at an earlier stage, Hari Sampath, have received compelling testimony from former students, staff and others who have been close to Sathya Sai Baba. The witneses are checked out to ensure that they are not among the attempted ‘plants’, such as Sai Baba’s ex-teacher Murali Krishna Yachendra. See:

Cultic Conduct. High Preachments, Low Practices

We screen the identities of various other coordinators within our network of former followers. However, (as has been the case with organs like the BBC, Times of London, UNESCO, and other principled media, investigators and reputed institutions, we stand ready to give account. And indeed to make sworn testimony in courts in any democratic countries.

Unfortunately, many accounts of abuse by Sathya Sai Baba – of serial sexual molestation of boys and young men and other shocking types of abuse by him, and in some cases abuses by key servitors – are so sensitive and confidential that direct access will not be shared. However, even here, and only with the permission of some of the afflicted families and individuals, we are able point media etc., to modes of confirmation from leading international lawyers that testimony of credible provenance exists.

Those Sai Baba forces who deride our need for confidentiality, and who wish to deny proper, fair and protected rights to survivors of abuse to have the Sathya Sai Organization made accountable behave most reprehensibly.

The second half of this blog is an excerpt from a longer testimony that is quite typical of the testimony we have received over several years.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:  The screening of many former devotee participants from public view is so as to modify the severity of defamations, libels, invasion of privacy within communities and so on by Sathya Sai Baba people (including certain of his key leaders) who stray (as he himself does) far from his teachings of Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Right Conduct), Shanti (Peace), Prema (Love) and Ahimsa (Non Violence).

Chris Allen’s Report On Australian Current Affair

In the case of violence, my readers can view the horrors of the hired thugs against former staff and present clients of SWARA (Sunshine Welfare and Remedial Association Inc) reported to be used by key Brisbane figures of the Sathya Sai Organization in Australia the Australian Current Affair report ‘Infiltrating a Cult’, shown last Monday night, February 2, 2009, on Channel NINEMSN. See frightening footage.  Pictured on the left (below) is a leading Sai Baba matriach, Moyia O’Brien, who denies in the interview with Chris Allen that Sai Baba’s movement is religious. The famed wealthy ‘Pink Sister’  (or along with her late sister Dorothy O’Brien, one of the ‘Pink Twins’) says: “The Sai Organization is not a cult, it’s not even a religion. It’s a service organization”.

Sevicing disabled clients with brutal hired security guards is, perhaps, one way the servitors of the self-proclaimed fullest embodiment of God in human history may convincingly go about winning hearts and minds in his cause …

In a blog at https://barrypittard.wordpress.com coming very soon, clear documentation from her writings, speeches and testimony of others will be presented to show that her words are typical of other Sai Baba leaders in making misleading public statements. Click HERE or on Photo

Excerpt From Fairly Typical Report Of Sathya Sai Baba As Serial Sexual Molester of Boys and Young Men

From one who writes from the point of view of a graduated student in one of Sai Baba’s formost educational institutions:

“Swami, in my personal opinion is a homosexual being. There are several reasons for that:

1) He molests only boys and no girl so far has reported about a molestation experience.

2) He spends most of the time with men instead of with women.

3) Men around him are homosexuals- at least in varying degrees. I do not think that I need to give out names here.

4) He loves fondling young boys. 6-24 is the age group he chooses. He likes tall, slim, fair, handsome, girlish boys a lot.

5) I have repeatedly heard him say his favorite boys that marriage is bad and swami goes away from a boy’s life when he marries.

One of my friends had this sexual experience with swami and then never told any one about it. He got interviews many times and I used to wonder why is he so confused and flabbergasted every time he stepped out after the interview. I also saw him reluctant to come any more for darshan. He was afraid to sit there friend and started hiding a lot. So I began to suspect that something is going on and one day I confronted him. I clearly asked him if swami is molesting him. He beat around a bush for a while and then later realized that it is better to share the experience with someone else as it relieves some pain. He told me that swami used to rush towards him in the interview room and hug him and kiss him longingly in the mouth. Baba has the nasty habit of not only kissing but also sucking the lips of the victim. Then swami had oral sex and during this time would say “This is oneness with god, this is union with god”. My friend is like a girl in a lot of aspects like talking walking and speaking thus attracting “divine” attention. I also knew a wonderful human being called C. and he used to be a mandir boy. What it means is this guy slept in swami’s room. His life was a miserable and painful one. He had a porn star kind of a life with swami and he was so fed up with it that he nearly lost sanity. He finally found some caring woman and fled puttaparthy. Such is the situation with swami’s chosen boys. As for me, I never had a sexual experience with Swami but I believe my friends and trust them”.

Australian Current Affair: ‘Infiltrating A Cult’ (Sathya Sai Baba)

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 3, 2009

On last night’s Australian Current Affair on the national Channel NINEMSN, the camera catches scenes of ugly violence by security guards hired by Sathya Sai cult members.  Click on the reference below to see the anguish of long time staff and clients at a Brisbane, Australia, center for the disabled.

The picture over the title ‘Infiltrating A Cult’ (below) is of Moyia O’Brien, who is a Sathya Sai Organization matriarch, almost worshipped by some of Sai Baba’s followers.  She heads the SWARA centre (Sunshine Welfare and Remedial Association Inc). See Australian media related references, below.

In last night’s telecast (Monday, February 2), Moyia O’Brien is seen telling Channel Nine interviewer Chris Allen:

“That is completely ridiculous. That is not true. The Sai Organization is not a cult, it’s not even a religion. It’s a service organization”.

In further blogs, ample documentation will be given that indicate Moyia O’Brien knows this statement is extremely untrue. This presentation of Sathya Sai Baba to the general public is the many times documented familiar ploy of Sathya Sai Baba officials and devotees with the media and non-believers. Duplicity increasingly rebounds upon them with great force. (See ‘Recruiting’ link, below).

The hiring of very heavy security guards by SWARA against clients and former staff – who have been sacked for speaking up about clear and serious policy issues – questions the incessant talk of Sai Baba and his followers about resolving issues with love, peace and non-violence.

Yet again, the evidence shows a profound and systemic inability to listen and to value standards of accountability and transparency. It is a failure so often noted in cults, and results in great anguish for all concerned.

For the manner in which the Sathya Sai cult uses extremely costly and prestigious venues in which to recruit, see:

Secret Swami’ Cult Recruits At Prime Public Venues

Quote: “This zeal to recruit (to use the proper word) tends to take place in exceptionally prestigious venues. What does the Sathya Sai Baba cult  need for its survival – given over a decade of unrelenting exposure? It needs to provide for the stupendously expensive upkeep and maintenance of its costly and sumptuous buildings and various programs that glorify Sathya Sai Baba as God of Gods”.

For an Australian example of what is seen in other countries in which the cult is highly active, see:

Sathya Sai Organization Lavish Spending on Superdome Venue Meeting
(Compiled from Australian sources, with comments by Barry Pittard, former lecturer Sathya Sai College, Whitefield, via Bangalore, India, and Robert Priddy, former longtime leader of the Sathya Sai Organization, Norway, retired lecturer in Philosophy and Social Sciences, University of Oslo).

QUOTE:

“This iconic venue’s seating capacity is 12,000! Only 1,200 attended. Many Sai devotees walked out half way through the programme, leaving approximately 800. An organiser (Ms. Gavina Cossa) sat down and cried. In these carefully stage-managed so-called presentations, the chief aim of the international Sathya Sai Organisation is to recruit new members, but without using the word ‘recruit’.
Organisers permit no critical questions or non-supportive comments. Yet claim that it is not a cult. At the Sydney Super Dome, anyone with questions had to address them to head of the Sathya Sai Organization in Australia Neville Fredericks or Dr Pal Dhall, and only after the meeting was finished …

There is an ongoing and costly damage control effort by the SSO in various countries to select large, prestigious and plush venues such as La Mirada Theatre in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, Cooper Union in New York, Vancouver Playhouse, Melbourne Town Hall, etc. Other propaganda includes very costly professional audio-visual presentations”.

Sathya Sai Cult Under Media Scrutiny In Australia

Posted by Barry Pittard on February 2, 2009

A fracas looms involving the Sathya Sai Baba cult about to appear on a leading national highly-rated program, Australian Current Affair, on Channel Nine. The segment is due after the 6.30 pm (AEST) News on that channel. The piece may appear tonight or soon after.

You can keep an eye on the Australian Current Affair website.

The segment was postponed last Thursday night because of the tragic news of the little girl being thrown of the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne by her demented father.

In anticipation, I’ve assembled some information and resources at: Sathya Sai Baba Cult Exposure By Major TV Channel In Australia , with the Stats already in a steep upcurve in the last couple of days.

The SWARA Upheaval

Brisbane staff (allegedly sacked under draconian circumstances) and disabled clients of SWARA, a charity solidly funded by the Queensland State Government, say that they feel overwhelmed by a highly autocratic power concentrated in the hands of a committee. They claim that this body has been heavily stacked with Sai Baba cult members, and that clear and proper professional policies are not being adhered to. They also say that the committee is one of a number of fronts for the Sai Baba cult, which accepts large financial support by the Queensland government but bends these advantages in a way unacceptable in many properly conducted comparable institutions in Australia.

SWARA, in Brisbane, the capital of Australia eastern seaboard State of Queensland, was founded by two wealthy philanthropic sisters who have had long and close association with Sathya Sai Baba, Moyia and the late Dorothy O’Brien, twins well-known as ‘The Pink Sisters’. The SWARA website states that the charity is  “A multidiagnostic service catering for those with mild-moderate intellectual, psychiatric, cognitive, neurological, sensory or physical impairment”.

The Australian Current Affair segment is expected to link the cult of Sathya Sai Baba (a picture of whom Channel Nine has already shown several times in promotion of the segment, along with the unfortunate scenes when a group of centre workers (who say there have been threats to their jobs) and disabled clients attempted to air their views publicly) with troubles besetting SWARA (Sunshine Welfare and Remedial Association).
