Sathya Sai Baba Sect and Its Hidden Agendas. A Caution

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 30, 2009

Sathya Sai Baba sect devotees around the world speak constantly of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-Violence. They would link up with you, smile happily with you, act in a manner that has every appearance of professional and ethical responsibility. But there is a hidden agenda. What is more, core leaders keep a great deal hidden from the rank-and-file members. This means that the latter are all the more convincing when they interface with their communities – for they come across as honest, decent and nice people. They often are.

They seek to enter into shared endeavours with you in regard to your schools, civic and religious organizations, your municipal, state and central governments. The Interfaith movement is but one of the areas the sect seeks to work its way into. We have documentation that show some links to the White House, prior to the Barach Obama Administration. Certainly, Bill and Hillary Clinton had links to prominent Sathya Sai Baba personnel. My dear friend the late V.K Narasimhan, the great Indian newspaper editor who was very close to Sathya Sai Baba and on whose last book (on Teilhard de Chardin) I did editing work, informed me of this connection of the Clintons. Mrs Clinton wished to meet Sai Baba, but the security experts deemed that the difficulties were too great to overcome, he told me.

There are also links to mainstream religious groups, whose halls they hire and whose social service and cultural programs they find ways – to tailor their content and influence. They are directed to omit mention of Sai Baba’s claims to be God fully incarnate come to save the world in his own lifetime.

One may wonder, by the way, why, for example, Church organizations would hire their halls to others than their own faith. One reason stems from a motive that is surely admirable:  A wish on the part of some religionists to reach out to others and show respect for religious diversity.

No doubt of it, Sai Baba devotees do worthy works of social uplift, but also in fact have agendas that they keep from you under tight seals of prohibition as instructed by the guru and his core servitors and worldwide center leaders of the Sathya Sai Organization.

Susan Boyle Sings ‘Memory’. Worldwide Audience Not Likely To Forget (See Video)

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 25, 2009

In a few short weeks, this wonderful woman has arisen from the obscurity of her Scottish village, and gained the greatest number of ‘hits’ to YouTube. (This leaves out of account the vast number of accesses to her two songs April and May 2009) at other well-known Websites.  All of us have so much to learn from the Susan Boyle phenomenon – one which goes far beyond her wonderful voice. It is a topic not about how to sing – but rather about not judging people by their appearance, and in taking her example of courage in the face of social forces that frequently cripple our beings both as victims and perpetrators.  That makes the heart sing, with the conscience playing the accompaniment. Therefore, I make an exception in referring to her work in a blog not directly related to the central issues of https://barrypittard.wordpress.com

Nightingale About To Spread Its Wings

Susan Boyle (Or: Nightingale About To Spread Its Wings)

Relating her example to a theme germane to the purpose of this blogsite, I wrote at some length about Susan Boyle in my article:

Susan Boyle. Unexpected Divine Chanteuse. Sweet 47

Will We Change Our Ways?

Of course, one swallow – or, in this case, nightingale – does not make a Spring, and our lesson may not be well enough learnt. Is our judgemental eye-rolling done with? Have we – in relation to what public images of human beings are (allegedly!) ‘acceptable’ – wrestled free from the dictates of Hollywood and Bollywood and the advertizing, fashion and entertainment industries? Supposing Susan Boyle had not been able to sing like an angel. Supposing we all continue judging people on their appearance. Or that we do not – in our families, social, educational, political and religious spheres of influence, workplaces, and so on, work to stop the inhumanity of judgementalness based on a person’s physical appearance, race, creed, culture and so forth. From my previous article on Susan Boyle, I copy at the foot of this article the lovely and most touching reaction of a young boy and girl to Ms Boyle’s first appearance on ‘Britain’s Got talent’.

Ms Boyle’s Performance of Yesterday

In the semi-final of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, though the Scottish nightingale’s first notes started unsteadily as she sang “Memory” from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical ‘Cats‘, the massive audience around the world will forget the slight slips and remember the overall performance.

One of the three judges, Amanda Holdern (the others were (Simon Covell and Piers Morgan) was mistaken: Ma Boyle did not ‘nail’ the song. (How come, by the way, Covel is a judge when he has already declared the prime interest in managing Ms Boyle’s career?). There are real questions about her choice of song, and about whether she had thought through the ‘build’ of the song. She needed entire focus and self-possession in the first note of the song, which jumped off-key. What she showed, though, was the personable sweetness, the humanity, the  true grit and the ability to recover from a mistake that all serious performers require.

The fair question is – what great performer has not messed up a song, particularly at the beginning of their career? Ms Boyle is both ‘infant’ and ‘giant’ as a singer and will have to undergo, as she continues in her development, the same struggles with technique, focus, building the song, awareness of both self and song, control of nerves and so on that all artists have to pass through.  A nightingale she most certainly is, as millions of ‘hits’ on Youtube and elsewhere would attest. Only time will tell whether she is a great nightingale. Certainly, she has what countless ‘artists’ lack – being in touch with her authentic and essential self.

She will need to recover the extraordinary freshness, forthrightness and self-belief she showed throughout her first appearance, when she sang “I Dreamed A Dream” from ‘Les Miserables’.

Here are the responses of two children to whose lovely responses on the Susan Boyle video segment I was privy, and wrote down verbatim straight after:

6-year old girl

Adult: Why did all the people laugh at the lady when she walked on stage?

Girl: Because she is fat they think she can’t sing, and they don’t want her to be on the stage.

Adult: Why did the people change their mind?

Girl: Because she sang so beautifully.

9 year old boy

Adult: What did you reckon about the lady?

Boy: She’s not scared. She didn’t care what the people thought, she walked fastly and stood straight.

Sathya Sai Baba’s Failed Moon Miracle Under Heavy Cloud

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 23, 2009

An article that has continued to gain many ‘hits’ long months after the posting at: https://barrypittard.wordpress.com is:

Sai Baba To Be Seen In Moon? But Where Was Moon?

The almost acrobatic contortions of Sai Baba’s defenders are well-nigh tortuous to read. Perhaps they impart some kind of imagined bliss to those who habitually refuse to look carefully at the evidence against him. To scholars or other students of the Procrustean nature of cultist defence, issues like this provide a fertile area of scrutiny:

rationalization, psychological denial, demonizing of critics, distortion of critics’ facts and arguments, absence of self-questioning, group-think, euphoric states imagined to be Joy, Bliss, Love, Life and Spirituality, etc., …

The blog referred to above was posted in the same month as Sathya Sai Baba’s extraordinary statement (via his close aide and frequent translator Professor Anil Kumar on October 4) that he would give ‘visvarupa darshanam’ on the moon. He also turned up a while later in his car that same night, when the sky was cloud-covered! and the police, as reported in the media, had a serious time preventing threats to life and limb in all the milling of the crowds who had rushed to the designated site, the airport.  It is but one of many Sai Baba declarations and predictions that have been falsified. Let his followers take deep breaths and gaze steadily upon the facts. They cannot. They dare not. It is easier to vilify those who present the facts. A fact which, with whatever intellectual honesty, people like Joe Moreno and Dr G. Venkatarman do not appear likely, with other than heavy blinkers, ever to deal with. See:

Why Do Prominent Sathya Sai Baba Sect Critics Persist?

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 20, 2009

Why should so many former Sathya Sai Baba devotees have left him? Why, in the attempt to bring about proper third party investigation, would prominent former devotee critics of him and his sect have persisted. against huge difficulties, for nearly a decade.

The Necessity of Fearless, Articulate Questioning of A Worldwide Sect

In the case of those in the last quadrant of their lives, why would they – after long and dedicated service in their professions, communities and families – not simply enjoy their retirement years? Or, rather, their refreshment years. Why would critics withstand constant attacks on themselves, being stalked, harassed, threatened with lawsuits and in other ways, shunned by those they knew and loved as fellow devotees down many years, and their lives intruded upon by unprincipled fanatics into their lives, and even the lives of those they know but who have nothing to do with the movement of exposure of Sathya Sai Baba and his cult?  Some useful readings here are:

The answer is plain to those who have known them for many years. They, typically, speak up irrespective of whether they are a minority. It is nothing new. They do not roll over. They see that there should be the presence of best practice standards of accountability and transparency. Of these, there is, in the Sathya Sai Baba sect, an abysmal lack. The BBC got it right – Sathya Sai Baba IS ‘the secret swami’. See:  The BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami’ – A Revision

Prominent former devotee commentators, such as  Brian Steel, Timothy Conway Ph.D

Timothy Conway, Ph.D

Timothy Conway, Ph.D., lecturer and author in Eastern religious studies. Santa Barbara, USA

and  Robert Priddy

Robert Priddy, Academic Philosopher and Sathya Sai Baba Critic

Robert Priddy, Academic Philosopher and Sathya Sai Baba Critic. Former longtime head of the Sathya Sai Organization, Norway

(the latter two of whom were respected leaders in the Sathya Sai Organization) like many others who join groups such as that Organization, continue to devote themselves to unselfish service. This does not stop, and why should it? To please those who wish to see no proper questioning of their leader and his cult occurs? That is to say, their highly authoritiarian and yet widely influential – outwardly all- sweetness-and-reason cult, the Sathya Sai Organization?

Attitudes of Service To Others

Does not exposing corruption and spiritual and ethical betrayal perpetrated on a phenomenal scale qualify as a service to many others? Why would it not? Who will stand up? Most will not. Some cannot. This one issue is far from the be-all-and-end-all of our lives. Fortunately, years of academic or professional discipline have equipped these critical writers to research, analyse and write quickly, and to balance such activities with an array of life’s other portfolios. The crude, denigrating portrayals of us, can be seen for what they are, at a glance. See the articles:

Very typically, former devotees do not view the importance of service to their fellow human beings differently to what they did before, during and after affiliating themselves with Sathya Sai Baba. This fact resoundingly testifies to the complicit silence of many Sai Baba devotees who have blotted out from their memories and hearts these long years of deeply committed service of so many former devotees from many countries. I have written of this aspect and closely related issues in these articles:

The Historic Perspective

Prominent writers critical of Sathya Sai Baba and the Sathya Sai Organization have backgrounds that evince a keen interest in the processes of history. On the one hand, there are the more immediate concerns in attempting to stop the human abuses and spiritual betrayals. There is the attempt to expose certain core leaders who have extensively withheld terrible facts from the organization rank-and-file. However, there is a longer perspective. It relates to history. In prominent writers on the Sathya Sai Baba phenomenon, there is a deep desire not to see a profoundly flawed would-be King of Kings and Lord of Lords (poorna avatar) triumph in the mind of many millions, possibly for centuries to come.

UK Minister Tony McNulty Finished? Indian Guru Sai Baba Link Should Be Probed

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 10, 2009

Tony McNulty MP, the Sathya Sai Baba-partial British government Employment Minister is in still bigger trouble. He looks likely to face police investigation. It had seemed that McNulty was headed for close to the ultimate Ministerial portfolio, that of Home Minister. It is a far cry for him now.

Tony McNulty UK Minister. Finished? Is this a gun he's got in his finger?

Tony McNulty UK Minister. Finished? Is this a gun he's got in his finger?

McNulty’s plummet from political heights is not the only disgrace faced by those Sathya Sai Baba has ‘favoured’. After the fatal incompetence before and during the extreme Islamic terrorists on Mumbai, the (then) Home Minister of India, Shivraj Patil fell. See the article on this blogsite: Shivraj Patil Falls From Home Ministry. One wonders if Patil overhearkened to his likewise incompetent guru Sathya Sai Baba’s completely absurd prediction that there would be no terrorist bombs in India. See: Hasty Cover Up Of Sai Baba ‘No bombs in India’ Blunder. Apart from his many other failed predictions and promises, Sathya Sai Baba had said:

But in India, there is no fear of bombs. India will never have any such attacks.” Sathya Sai Baba, 22-10-2008.

UK Employment Minister Tony McNulty’s Sai Baba Connection

News of the last few hours shows that his disgrace factor continues to deepen. His friendship with Ashok Bhagani, the head of the UK Sathya Sai Organization, his employment in his Westminster office of Bhagani’s daughter, and his larger than might be expected attendances at Sathya Sai Baba meetings, I have blogged on in a number of pages in ‘Call For Media and Government Investigation of Sathya Sai Baba’. (See links below).

Quite beside scandal that surrounds McNulty’s improper use (which he was forced to admit) of government funds for his second house, in which his parents, and not he, have been residing, there are serious issues that former Sai Baba devotee interests would like to see him face. One of these relates to breach of privacy. Another to receipt of funds related to Sai Baba sources. Another to his role played in the setting up of powerful transmissions to beam Sai Global Radio across the British isles. A major presence, as well as Ashok Bhagani, in the latter is Dr G. Venkataraman, Sai Baba’s deputy head of the International Sathya Sai Organization, and head of Sai Global Radio via the WorldSpace Satellite Radio Corporation.

See my articles:

Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘Minister of Propaganda’ – Dr G. Venkataraman

Indian Nuclear Scientist Now Sai Baba’s Global Radio Chief

Venkataraman was a Sai Baba official with whom the Duke of Edinburgh’s emissaries had to deal in forcing the removal of false information from the official Sathya Sai Baba Puttaparthi website. See my article:  UK Guardian On Sathya Sai Baba and Duke’s Awards. Quote from this article:

Paul Lewis of The Guardian exposed links between India’s most famous and controversial guru, Sathya Sai Baba, and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Palace officials, after a slow start, demanded that Sai Baba’s officials take down incorrect information, and the Palace distanced itself from Sathya Sai Baba and his movement”

See Also:  A Duke Stops An Emperor. Edinburgh Routs Sai Baba. Venkataraman, who has, without doubt, defamed Robert Priddy, former longtime head of the Sathya Sai Sai Organization, Norway, has been exposed in some detail in Robert Priddy’s and my jointly-authored four-part article (which contains many valuable links): ‘The Sathya Sai Organization’s Deception and Propaganda Exposed’

Has Tony McNulty Breached Serious Ethics Codes Re Sai Baba Dealings?

These former Sai Baba devotee concerns about McNulty – although it may be uphill to bring them to the fore, given the enormity of other issues McNulty faces – we are placing in the hands of the proper authorities and, as well, with Opposition parties in the House of Commons and House of Lords. We will provide the story for any well-reputed media, without any thought of payment – unless it were fully declared and donated to a mainstream, universally regarded charity. One of these issues – no mistake about it! – would, if proved in a strict sense, constitute a most serious breach of ethics for any Member of Parliament, much less a Minister of the Crown. Our sources are good indeed. Some eminent ones are available to reputed media.

In the background photo, at London Sathya Sai Baba center, it is Sathya Sai Baba who stands behind Tony McNulty. We know that prominent Sathya Sai Baba officials regard him as standing behind McNulty in more ways than one.

Sathya Sai Baba Man Joe Moreno’s Diabolizing Photo Alterations of Sai Baba Critics

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 9, 2009

The principal internet critic of Sathya Sathya Sai Baba critics (beside Dr G.Venkataraman) is Gerald Joe Moreno of New Mexico, USA.  He virtually lives in virtual reality – if reality it is.

The title of Moreno’s main blogsite is, one may – virtually – overjoyed to learn: Sathya Sai Baba – Love, Life and Spirituality.

For the last few years, day after day (and night, of course), he has made countless attacks of various kinds on practically anyone who has raised his and her voice in criticism of the idol of Moreno’s life, Sathya Sai Baba. The ‘maturity’ of these endeavours questions the support given to Moreno by both leading Sathya Sai Baba and rank-and-file personnel, including members of the International Sathya Sai Organization

But one example of Moreno’s disparaging ‘art’ and ‘craft’ is that against Sanjay Dadlani, whose University authorities have been beset with material that Moreno has sent to vilify and destroy this young man. So as to concentrate on his studies heading towards a Ph.D in neuro-Psychology, Dadlani  has, for a considerable time, withdrawn (since early August, 2008, I think) from the exposure of Sathya Sai Baba. He has gained his BSc. and MSc.  That fact has not stopped Moreno’s relentless pursuit of him. Clearly, Moreno wants to destroy his career, just as he tried to destroy the business of a courageous young woman who has built up a business of integrity and love – see quotation below from: Sai Baba Hatchet Man Picks On A Young Child. Joe Moreno’s Language of Hatred and Disparagement Against Sai Baba Critics

The Art and Craft of Gerald Joe Moreno, New Mexico, USA

The Art and Craft of Gerald Joe Moreno, New Mexico, USA

See, companion piece to this blog: Sathya Sai Baba Man Gerald Moreno’s Photo Attack On Robert Priddy

It is extraordinary, especially given Sathya Sai Baba’s spiritual teachings about truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence.   Even the few brief words in hundreds, if not thousands, of Gerald Moreno’s Google entries contain ‘hot’ words and phrases, full of aggressive denigration. These references, which Moreno has often highly manipulated through his technical Internet skills, lead to his nest of blogsites and websites containing his unceasing attacks and libels. Quite as extraordinary in its own way is the fact that his main blogsite is called:  ‘Sathya Sai Baba – Love, Life and Spirituality’. These are sometimes drawn from his very nasty – although he is at first, ostensibly, befriending and pleasant – personal social harrassments against those who call for proper third party investigation of Sathya Sai Baba and certain of his core leaders in the international Sathya Sai Organization.

Gerald Moreno – Banned By Eight Wikpedia Editors

Gerald Moreno is a man whom no fewer than eight Wikipedia editors banned indefinitely from that encyclopedia. See the independent British scholar Kevin Shepherd’s account: Wikipedia, Moreno, Google.  See also:  Sathya Sai Baba Man Gerald Moreno – Banned By Eight Wikpedia Editors

Once Shepherd spoke, he too was marked for Moreno’s strenuous attacks, full of inaccuracy, based on Moreno’s highly typical rush to judgement and poor argumentative capacities. One of Moreno’s most constant resorts is argumentum ad hominem, attack upone persons instead of dealing with the issues).

In case legal actions and/or media interest occur, Moreno’s and the Sathya Sai Organization libels of many decent and upright members of wider communities throughout the world, are being recorded. Evidence of Moreno’s connections with those close to Sathya Sai Baba, as well as various members of the Sathya Sai Organization will be provided to bona fide investigators well-respected in the international community.

Partial List of Gerald Moreno’s Vast Postings Contra Sathya Sai Baba Critics

Quote from Robert Priddy blogsite at http://robertpriddy.wordpress.com from the article Sai Baba Hatchet Man Picks On A Young Child.

“It has also been Moreno’s method to attempt to destroy the business of a woman on which the well-being of herself and her young children depend. He has attempted, using Internet methods, to divert business away from her. By highly partial, faulty reasoning and the leaping-to-conclusion, he has presented her as cooperating with the exposure of the Sathya Sai sect. Of course, whether she had been or not, a dirty trick played against her is nonetheless a dirty trick. Although she is not now devoted to Sai Baba, having taken down her photos and stopped singing his bhajans and so forth, she has not cooperated with her former partner’s exposure activities, as has been a fact well-known to Sai Baba devotees known to her”.

Sathya Sai Baba Man Gerald Moreno’s Photo Attack On Robert Priddy

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 8, 2009

‘Sathya Sai Baba – Love, Life and Spirituality’ is the title of surely one of the most  scurrilous sites of the Internet. Should any Sathya Sai Baba devotee wish to assure themselves that no definition of  ‘Life, Love and Spirituality’ would fit the (to put the matter mildly!) voluminous writings of Sai Baba chief defender on the Internet, they need administer a five to ten minute test: randomly consult even the titles in the Urls (links) and note the abundance of ‘hot’, derogatory and calumnious words. Many links of these heavily libelous attack articles are listed – and yet are but a tiny indication of his protean activities –  See:  Sathya Sai Baba Casebook-Factsheet

The following three Gerald Joe Moreno hand-crafted distortions of Robert Priddy are from Moreno’s questionably-named blogsite ‘Sathya Sai Baba – Life, Love and Spirituality’.

Sathya Sai Baba Man Gerald Moreno's Photo Attack On Robert PriddyNeedless to say, terms like “blathering” are not those of Robert Priddy, former longtime leader of the Norwegian Sathya Sai Organization, nor of any self-respecting former devotee or other critic of Sathya Sai Baba and his sect. They are words typical of, and rife in the writings of, Gerald Joe Moreno of New Mexico, USA. The latter’s work might lend itself to a study of extreme attachment – so inveterate as to be crass, unconscionable, defamatory and blind – to the idol of a belief system incapable of questioning itself.

See companion piece to my present blog at: Sathya Sai Baba Man Joe Moreno’s Diabolizing Photo Alterations of Sai Baba Critics. (Note:  Perhaps the vitriol of the depiction of Sanjay Dadlani owes to the fact that Dadlani (which I and others have tried to persuade this young man against) has, apart from some very intelligent, hard-working and perceptive exposures of Sai Baba and his sect, been far from polite in his criticisms of Moreno. However, there is whole pattern of tit-for-tat in Moreno, who clearly subscribes to the notion that two wrongs make a right – which is far removed from the spiritual teachings of Sathya Sai Baba, among a great many other ethical teachings. One of Moreno’s many slipshod arguments, too, is assert (and this in a highly systematic way) that because some former devotee critic believes this or that, then there is homogenous opinion among,  typically, other former devotees – or “Anti-Sais” as he likes, constantly, to label them).

It will not become a popular pastime to withstand such constant attack as the somewhat (late) Senator Joe McCarthy-like Moreno makes, but there are some who will not bend to his constant purposes, such as to bully, scare, demean and distort. See two excellent articles on Moreno by the scholar and author (whose writings were much regarded circles until he spoke out) in Bibliography and Linguistics, Brian Steel

Diversionary Tactics by an Internet Demagogue.

Evidence of an Internet Activist in Action: Gerald ‘Joe’ Moreno

Anyone who questions Moreno’s cult idol, the Puttaparthi Sai Baba, must expect Moreno’s attacks on their family, including those who are not involved in the Exposure of Sathya Sai Baba. See Robert Priddy’s article:

Moreno: anonymity and the dark – or love, light & spirituality?

Quote:

“Another example of Moreno’s disingenuous policy involves the picture he posted of my son (and I) on his abuse pages at saisathyasai.com , which he doggedly refused to remove, compounding his sin by making dirty attack pages against my son based on what other persons have done with whom he was associated in a band for a year or so”.

Sai Baba Hatchet Man Picks On A Young Child

Quote:

“This maliciousness is further evidenced in Moreno’s conscienceless naming of a young child. This boy, out of childlike curiosity, googled his own name, and found (Moreno’s) viciously aimed barbs at the father whom he loves. This is a man, moreover, who has for years remained unprovoked by Moreno’s constant and extreme vilifications.  Indeed, he has all along recommended to other former devotees whom Moreno has attacked not to retaliate or at least if bent on doing so to avoid malice and heated language”

Moreno’s is a hatred that calls others the haters. It is a poverty of proper argumentation that strikes out and says that all others are impoverished, including some of the world’s top journalists – in the BBC in the case of the searing documentary ‘The Secret Swami’, Dominic Kennedy and his investigative team of The Times of London,  Mick Brown of The Telegraph (who traveled to the USA to investigate extensively), the team of India Today, Michelle Goldberg of Salon.com (who traveled to India), Padraic Murphy of The Age, Paul Lewis in The Guardian, and many other writers and organs critical of Sathya Sai Baba, his officials and sect.

Former Devotees Have Lives. Gerald Moreno Mostly Lives On The Internet

Moreno’s everywhere apparent deficiency of civil discourse is one that attacks the slightest shred – real or imagined – of incivility in former devotees, most of whom are widely regarded in  their professions, trades and wider communities as being very different indeed to what Moreno almost daily for the last few years has depicted.

Gerald Moreno lives on the Internet, but, very typically, former devotee activists have lives. In fact, lives in which unselfish service in the community, as well as to family, plays a vital role – as it for so many decades has. Networked former devotees have long included those of many backgrounds, e.g., Hindu, Moslem, Christian, Jewish,  Rationalist, Humanist, etc., and come from a wide array of cultures. They deeply disdain Moreno’s constant attempts to tar-brush former devotees with slurs such as being pro-fundamentalist Christian, pro-pornography, inciting of terrorists, and so on. See:

Gerald Moreno – Christian Fundamentalists, Anti-Semitism, Fascism

Terrorist-related Slurs Used By Sai Baba Internet Fanatic

Among countless other attacks of various kinds – the maturity of which questions the support given to Gerald Joe Moreno both leading Sathya Sai Baba and rank-and-file personnel, including members of the International Sathya Sai Organization

See Robert Priddy’s article exposing Moreno’s recent attack in regard to copyright issues in his article: Gerald Moreno and “copyright blathering”

Sathya Sai Baba Man Gerald Moreno – Banned By Eight Wikpedia Editors

Posted by Barry Pittard on May 2, 2009

In case legal actions and/or media interest occur, Gerald Joe Moreno’s and the Sathya Sai Organization’s libels of many decent and upright members of wider (but former devotee) communities throughout the world, are being recorded. This is so, also, of material that Moreno takes off his Internet sites.

Gerald Moreno – Allied Covertly With Those Close To Sai Baba

Evidence of Gerald Moreno’s connections with those close to Sathya Sai Baba, such as the saibabaofindia.com consortium, as well as members of the Sathya Sai Organization in various countries, will be provided, should they require it, to bona fide media, scholarly and other investigators well-respected in the international community.

Astonishingly, Gerald Moreno’s main blogsite is entitled: Sathya Sai Baba – Life, Love And Spirituality. By no token, whether by dictionary definition, by normative ethical categories or any other yardstick, could it be fairly said to be related to love and spirituality. There can be little doubt that Moreno himself has been tackled by some decent Sathya Sai Baba devotees. However, many (like most former devotees) stay well clear of controversy.

Gerald Moreno – Banned By Eight Wikipedia Editors

Wikipedia LogoGerald Moreno is a man whom no fewer than eight Wikipedia editors banned indefinitely from that encyclopedia. He was accompanied in this by his confederates Simon Brace and Moreno’s longtime confrere, the exceptionally foul-mouthed Lisa de Witt. For those interested in sublime love and deep spirituality, it will be edifying to go to this small selection of de Witt and Wisdom HERE.

Moreno and Dr G. Venkataraman have had a hard time reckoning with critical forces other than former devotees, too – for example, the investigations of organs such as the BBC, DR, Times of London, India Today, Salon.com, Azul TV, and major media in Europe, Canada, Australia, etc. Dr Venkataraman is Sai Baba’s deputy world chairman and head of Sai Global Radio (via WorldSpace). See my  Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘Minister of Propaganda’ – Dr G. Venkataraman . And Robert Priddy’s Slander by Dr. G. Venkataraman & Joe Moreno.  For Gerald Moreno and G.Venkataraman, in their profoundly attached and blind-faith idolising of Sathya Sai Baba, the equation works thus:  themselves – right. But the rest of the world (which Sai Baba has said that he will save in his own lifetime) – is wrong. The demons pictured by their minds are those who question Sai Baba and his cognition of himself as God come to rule the world. Indeed, the term ‘demons’ Sai Baba himself has used of his critics in his Christmas Discourse of 2000. See too Sathya Sai Baba – the spirit of Christmas.

Gerald Moreno’s Aggressive, Bullying and Demonizing Tactics

For the independent British scholar Kevin Shepherd’s account of Moreno’s repeatedly aggressive, brash, rude rule-flouting conduct in the editing of the Wikipedia article on Sathya Sai Baba, see Wikipedia, Moreno, Google. Once Shepherd (whose many works have earned respect in the world of scholars) spoke, he too was marked for Moreno’s strenuous attacks, full of inaccuracy and distortion. Moreno has a strong line in several directions:  a highly typical rush to judgement, name-calling, jeering, aggressive disparagement … He intensively attempts to link former devotees – who have spent all their lives free of such atrocious attitudes – as somehow condoning Christian fundamentalism, pornography, anti-Semitism … He brands his critics, variously, as “senile”, “half-senile”, “septuagenarians”, “ugly”, “bald headed”, with “deep wrinkles”… Anything he cannot understand or find an alternative commonsense interpretation for, he calls “lying”, “cheating”, “disinformation” …  There are his highly partial interpretations of his critic’s words and lives, setting up of  insulting graphic representations of some of his critics (which may remind one, for example, of an artifice of the Nazi Party in the case of the Jews and other targets) … His argumentative capabilities are often poor, although capable of engendering a populist following of Sai devotees who clutch at Moreno’s extravagantly-waved straws – a fact that gives him misleadingly ‘healthy’ looking statistics for his main blogsite.

Moreno As Populist Demon-Slaying Sai Baba Hero

Fifty million – of whatever the absurdly indemonstrable number of Sathya Sai Baba followers the Sathya Sai Organization may currently like to say the number of Sai Baba’s followers are – CAN indeed be wrong! Some of them are steadied by Moreno’s writings. These are Moreno’s flock. He slays the wolves all round. Perhaps, just like his hero, a pure gold throne should be reserved for him, and he can be carted about on a pure golden palanquin. Costly  gold statues and museums should be raised to him, and a vast pomp and ceremony lavished.

Sathya Sai Baba Mounted In Pure Gold Spendour                   Is that Gerald Moreno mounted up there, or Sathya Sai Baba?

After all:  what better spiritual fare can there be than Moreno’s ‘Life, Love and Spirituality’? Let us all flock there … should we not?

Kevin Shepherd, British philosphy and religion scholar

Kevin Shepherd, British philosophy and religion scholar

In the above-mentioned article, Kevin Shepherd, who has had no association with the Sathya Sai Organization nor friendship with critical commentators on Sathya Sai Baba, writes :

“The decision of the March 6th 2007 Wikipedia arbitration committee is documented at (HERE. ‘Wikipedia Requests For Arbitration’). This item contains the relevant clause that “Wikipedia is not a soapbox for propaganda or activist editing.” Earlier, in January 2007, Moreno had gained a reputation in Wikipedia for making personal attacks on other editors. Suspicions were confirmed when, after his ban, Moreno engaged in complaining webpages and other postings about Wikipedia. In general, the tendency of Moreno to personal attacks in his web harassment is acute, and ex-devotees have viewed this as a convenience for the evasive policy of Dr. Michael Goldstein, the presiding American supporter of Sathya Sai”.

It can safely be said that no self-respecting school teacher of clear thinking could award Moreno with other than a poor result. Sai Baba devotees who are teachers might well consider the terrible disrepute he is bringing to their Sathya Sai Organization. Moreno has repeatedly denied this nexus. In fact, certain prominent figures as well as rank-and-file members have supported him, and the longer he denies the evidence, the more difficulties he weaves for himself. Time will not treat him well.

One of Moreno’s most constant resorts is argumentum ad hominem, attack upon persons instead of genuinely dealing with the issues: appealing to people’s emotions and prejudices instead of their ability to think ( formal )’. In the interests of keeping focus on matters of real substance about Sathya Sai Baba and his sect, and refusing to spend valuable time and energy in bothering to read his forever toxic and libelous outpourings, others and I have ignored Moreno’s attacks down many years. However, he has now attacked the family members or others associated with former devotees. See Robert Priddy post Sai Baba Hatchet Man Picks On A Young Child . See too Alan Kazlev’s page Gerald “Joe” Moreno on Wikipedia, and refutation of his allegations against Robert Priddy

Kazlev, an Australian, for some time was partial to Moreno but, as is typical with the Moreno modus, Kazlev became, too, from virtually the moment he began to question Moreno, the target of Moreno’s sustained vitriol. Kazlev, who has written about what others have observed as a socio-pathic, or feelingless tendency recurrent right across Moreno’s writings, has noted in an extensive page tracing his, Kalev’s, history of experience with Moreno, notes:

“In all of Moreno’s thousands of pages, blog posts, personal attacks and so on, there is one thing that is very apparent. That is the utter humourlessness of all his pages and hundreds of thousands of words. Not one genuine joke, not one ray of humour or levity. Instead of genuine laughter, there is harsh mocking ridicule. Instead of laughing with you, he will laugh at you. Indeed, he is incabable of doing anything else”.

Still further, as I mentioned, Moreno has been found to have connections with those close to Sathya Sai Baba and other notable members of the Sathya Sai Organization. This is a decisive factor in Robert Priddy’s and my writing on an almost infinitisimally small part of Moreno’s vast and frequently nasty opus.
