Does Obama Carry Sathya Sai Baba Photo In Wallet?

Whenever an incident such as a contact by Sai Baba personnel with this or that powerful figure (Barack Obama in this instance), there is a rejoicing. For O look ye and be of glad heart!  see how our Swami is influencing the world’s leaders …

From the end of last year, the saibababaofindia conglomerate and followers elsewhere have hailed this sort of situation. Anita Sharma, an organizer on a host committe, Pittsburgh USA, for Barack Obama in November 2008 managed to hand a photo of Sathya Sai Baba to Obama, telling him:

“HE is my spiritual guru and am Giving you for your guidance, good luck and protection”

At the end of her rhapsody, Mrs Sharma, triumpantly proclaims:

“Swami is with Obama and guiding him every step of the way. It augurs well for the whole mankind”

Little doubt many other humble souls have handed Barack Obama and other leaders some photo or other talismanic artifact  reflecting their image of the deity.  Leaders, whether out of politeness and charm – either natural or calculated or a mix of both – will of course, if there is not a security constriction, accept. This woman and her group were, after all, on an Obama committee.

Sai Saint Barack Obama?

Obama – charming? Polite? Has one not noticed? But a real McCoy Sai Saint – such as his now Secretary of State Mrs Hilary Clinton is said to have aspired to be? Indeed, at least he is a popular politician who likes to make symbolic gestures of outreach to many cultural groups in the community. It would have taken a hard heart to have resisted the bountiful heart of the enthusiastic Srimati Sharma …

But, in a matter of seconds, amid so many other duties, is he quite likely to fall in love with a photo of Sai Baba? The photo immediately below is from the saibabaofindia group – whose prime movers are very close to the ‘Lord’s Throne’ – so we may take it to be a genuine likeness of their rapidly ageing and increasingly non compos mentis guru. A glance at Anita Sharma’s email (see below) is enough for anyone not a blind follower to get a glimpse of a particular phenomenon. It is one that occurs when the idolized guru figure is believed to have made an impact on this or that celebrated power figure. It is widely seen among worshippers of Sai Baba:  immediately mobiles, landlines and email systems run hot.  Ooo and ahhh – Look at the untold Grace our Guru is bestowing right round the world! Hilary Clinton wants to see Swami! Ohhh and hallelujah! and Jai Sai Ram! Did you know that I sat next to  Raisa Gorbachev in the Puttaparthi darshan and she told me that Michael Gorbachev keeps a book of Swami’s discourses by his bedside! Ooo ooo ahhh ahhh, I was at Puttaparthi when Swami sat Steven Seagal on a sort of throne next to Him. O what a Leela Swami plays! Ohooo, how wonderful it  was to see Goldie Hawn!  And Fergie (the) Duchess of York looking so adoringly at Swami – what a lovely role model she is!

Few hours later, my husband got a call from Obama’s campaign manager
And security people as to what was that picture about because Obama kept
That picture in his wallet. My husband explained to them that the
Picture is our spiritual master and we gave him for his good luck,
Guidance and safety. They were ok with that response.
Few days ago, my husband was invited for Obama Victory celebration and the Same campaign manager said Dr. Sharma your guru’s picture has worked.

Tony McNulty Expenses Outcry. Select List of Major UK News Articles

Via the news organization Silobreaker, Friday, March 27, 2009 8:23 PM, below are some links to major British media articles on the Tony McNulty expenses uproar.

McNulty has close ties with the wealthy and powerful Sathya Sai Baba sect, and with its UK leader  Ashok Bhagani and other key members. The aim to set up a powerful transmitter in the UK for Sai Baba’s international radio satellite broadcasts has been a part of this relationship.

McNulty first said that he would not hand back the more than 60.000 pounds sterling that he had claimed for a house in which his parents live. Under closer scrutiny, he then said that he would. He also first said that he had done no wrong. But subsequently said that the “arrangement is indefensible”.

John Lyon, the parliamentary commissioner for standards, is to launch a formal investigation.

McNulty has been widely tipped to be the next Home Minister and also Lord Mayor of London for 2012.  However, he is now under a cloud of approximately the size of the roof of his parents’ house for which he claimed expenses.

Sai Baba-related Minister Tony McNulty Faces Expenses Enquiry

Great Britain’s State Minister for Employment and Welfare Reform, Tony McNulty, is yet again under fire. Recently, he was in trouble for falsely talking up the economy. McNulty’s previous portfolios  as Immigration Minister and Minister for Security and Counter-terrorism at the Home Office also gave him some rocky rides.

Britons Angered Over McNulty’s Expenses Claims

 Last weekend, the Daily Mail broke a story about his taking large tax-free expenses for a house in which his parents live.  But McNulty himself lives in Hammersmith, a few miles from his Harrow constituency.

With hundreds of thousands of Britons unemployed, such revelations have angered many.

At first, but subsequently doing a volte face, McNulty was adamant that he was not going to hand back the at least 60.000 pounds sterling that he had claimed for a home where his parents live. This tax-free claim the Daily Mail and other newspapers (which quickly took up the story) have suggested cannot be justified by his parliamentary duties.  See:

Probe Needed Into McNulty-Sathya Sai Baba Sect Nexus

A probe into irregularities should enquire about any payments that Sathya Sai sect officials or other members may have paid to Tony McNulty.

The powerful and extraordinarily wealthy worldwide Sathya Sai Organization broadcasts in the name of  Sai Global Harmony, transmitted internationally by satellite 24/7 via WorldSpace Radio Corporation. The head of this, Dr Michael Nobel, has shown high partiality to Sathya Sai Baba but has been exposed by the Royal Swedish Nobel Foundation and in the New York Times. See my article of yesterday.

British PM Brown Says: Investigate paid job’ Outside Parliamentary Duties 

Although Gordon Brown’s response seems made to get the spotlight off McNulty, it contains a solid suggestion:  investigate paid jobsthat MP’s might be taking beyond their parliamentary remit. 

An enquiry needs to ask McNulty to disclose his entire dealings with this cult which has been strongly exposed by the BBC in 2004 and other major investigative media in the UK and and other countries.

A big scandal has erupted in the UK surrounding  British Labour Member of Parliament, Tony McNulty.

Some of my readers will recall that McNulty is connected with the head of the Sathya Sai Organization in the UK, Ashok Bhagani. Evidence suggests the two men are friends.

It is also known that Bhagani’s daughter has long been working, with varying hours of service, for Bhagani in his Westminster office.

Tony McNulty has represented the Harrow Constituency since 1997, and been a government Minister since 2002. He is currently Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform, although widely tipped to become Home Minister. His wife is Christine Gilbert, the chief inspector of schools, with whose Ministry questions about Sai Baba’s secular fronts in Education in Human Values have been raised. The Times of London writer Dominic Kennedy raised on page 3. this issue of unacknowledged sect influence in UK, referring to June Auton, a familiar figure in Sai Baba’s UK organization. See:

Nobel has been effectively disposed of in reports by e.g., The New York Times and by the Royal Swedish Nobel Foundation itself (see links in the Robert Priddy article). Sai Baba’s statement in a discourse (November 18, 2001), very far from omniscient, is also exposed for all eyes except those of his smitten followers:

“They are giving the Nobel Prize to many people. The man who gives the Nobel Prize (Chairman of the Nobel Prize Committee) is coming here on the 22^nd November. The ones who will show this to the whole world, TV people, are all coming here on the 22^nd.

Major British Newspaper Called Investigative Journalist off McNulty-Bhagani story

In 2008, a leading journalist from one of Britain’s top newspapers, The Guardian, attempted to investigate this McNulty-Bhagani nexus.  As soon as he made headway, he got called off the story.  However, on Saturday November 4, 2007, The Guardian had run Paul Lewis’s story The Indian living god, The paedophilia claims and the Duke of Edinburgh awards.  See my article:

There have been instances where sudden spikings of Sai Baba related stories, much to the upset of journalists who have put in a lot of investigative slog – such as senior journalists on CanWest (where wealthy Canadian Sai Baba cult members threatened the withdrawal of considerable business advertisements). At the 11th hour, the editor of The West Australian pulled a story by award-winning journalist Torrance Mendez that was to be front paged. However, it is known that The Times, BBC, CBC (Canada), SBS (Australia) and India Today have all withstood considerable pressures by Sai Baba’s extremely wealthy and well-connected emissaries.

The Sathya Sai Organization is noted, whenever it gets wind of an upcoming media story, for attempting to keep critical stories OUT of the news. There are questions to be asked about what kind of contributions may have been made by Bhagani to McNulty. Also, whether McNulty’s links with the Sathya Sai Baba sect are more than would be required of an MP on behalf of constituents.

Why has McNulty had such close association with the Sathya Sai Baba cult? This – when the Times of London, the BBC, CBC, SBS, ABC, The Telegraph, The Guardian, and serious media in other parts of the world, including India Today, all stood by the integrity of their investigations. Why, in short, Tony McNulty’s persistent linkage with the Sai sect?

Will McNulty declare moneys that he has received from any strongly Sathya Sai Baba-connected source? Will he disclose why he has made many visits to Sathya Sai Baba venues? Sathya Sai Baba Organization’s Betrayal of Love and Compassion

Many Sathya Sai Baba devotees have betrayed their memories and allowed to be constantly set upon, vilified, demeaned, defamed and libeled those whom they had so long loved, honored and worked side-by-side with.

Factors which prevent a wider former devotee visibility on the Internet or in the law courts include the following:

• Wanting to “move on”
• Preservation of business, family or professional relationships.  A prominent example of this is the case of the former head of the Australian Sathya Sai Organization, Terry Gallagher, an agriculturalist and businessman of News South Wales, Australia.  At length by telephone, he told me that, against extraordinary unwillingness of devotees to look at the allegations,  he had done what he could to investigate and surface the terrible facts about Sai Baba’s serial sexual abuse of young males. He told me that he had extensively shown documentation to Valmai Worthington, a Brisbane leader of the Sathya Sai Organization, who has led many groups to from Australia to see Sai Baba, but this had not led to meaningful action. Other leaders were likewise impervious and went into the utmost psychological denial. Groups, including those with young males in them, continued to go to the ashram. (See below excerpts from the Terry Gallagher testimony and the link to the full document).These explorations – including direct contact with a number of deeply concerned students from Sai Baba’s education establishment – culminated in Terry Gallager’s resignation on the most serious moral principle from his headship of the Australian Sathya Sai Organization. However, he said, his relations with his brother-in-law, Neville Fredericks, now the head of the Sathya Sai Organization in Australia, had slowly been repaired in both the family and business sense, and he (Gallagher) didn’t want to raise his voice further. NOTE:  For those with limited time, I have excerpted, for the sake of a focus, some points from Terry Gallagher’s testimony, which was first published by David and Faye Bailey (very prominent leaders who also resigned) in The Quarterly, UK. Later it appeared in the September-October 1999 edition of the Australian magazine ‘Nexus’ when the editor, Duncan Roads, became, as he has accounted, disillusioned with Sathya Sai Baba, having heard from a number of other alternate and firm sources with similar accounts.

• Because advised by those at the sharp end, even when they were willing to testify, unless they were very well prepared psychologically not to submit themselves to the fanatical depradations of those Sai Baba people who make threats of law (see HERE and HERE and HERE) against former devotees and the media;  use Sai Baba devotees to spy and report on former devotees; direct and serious sabotage against former devotees in business, work and place of study; etc.; manipulation of Internet technicalities in an attempt to silence critics; and so on …

Terry Gallagher’s Testimony

(Excerpts)

Upon leaving the interview, I was told by Sai Baba that I should sit on the verandah of the mandir in the future, with students from the colleges and other devotees. As it turned out, this gave me the opportunity to meet people and observe events very closely that I otherwise might not have had the opportunity to do …

… We returned to the ashram again in 1985 for one month; and then in 1986 we stayed for seven months, at which time our daughters attended Sai Baba’s school …

… I will never forget the look of anguish on Sai Baba’s face when he came onto the verandah of the mandir early one morning and dropped two vibhuti pellets in front of me as he attempted to accept a rose from a college student. There was no vibhuti materialisation during darshan that morning!

I observed how he transferred these vibhuti pellets from one hand to the other, using the letters he collects from devotees to disguise his movements. In the many interviews that followed, I also observed more than thirty instances of rings, “diamonds”, japamalas, vibhuti containers, etc., all being produced by sleight of hand and deception …

… Sai Baba made no comment on our accusations and was only anxious to know who had told us these details, requesting us to tell him several times! Having had dozens of interviews over the years, this was the most stressful and uncomfortable interview our family had ever experienced.

Sai Baba was tense and agitated, and his body language told us all that what we had found out him was the truth! We left the interview and returned to Australia.

The following years were very difficult spiritually; we concentrated on all the positive aspects we had experienced over the past ten years and found this comforting.

When we attempted to tell others about our experiences and the truth about SaiBaba, no one would believe us, except those who had also had similar experiences- and mostly fear prevents them from telling others.

Confirmation of Terry Gallagher’s Observations of Long Ago. Selection from a larger database of film clips.

Terry Gallagher’s growing cognition – between 1986 and 1993 (the years of the grisly police executions in Sai Baba’s bedroom) that something was seriously amiss is suggestive of three points that are not appreciated by all minds: 

The first is that, under sway of powerful belief, rational or conscientious promptings are ignored.

The second, that the time taken for the psychological masking rationalisations can persist for years. The ‘something’ unsettled, the nagging doubts are replaced by focusing on all the non-conflictive preoccupations. There have been Sathya Sai Baba apologists and attackers who wish to bypass such considerations. They drive questions such as: why didn’t the person act on their observations earlier? They scorn individuals who undergo conditions that we are all too humanly prey to. Still more, they embody the very psychological principle of being in-denial that I have just referred to!

The third point is that film clips whose links are below, will allow the viewer a sort of Gallagher’s-eye-view which that early whistle-blower experienced in those years before, and indeed took on a lot of pain for himself when he investigated and shared with others.

Sathya Sai Organization Libels Those Who Have Left It

 

It pleases Sai Baba’s Internet defenders – not to mention those elsewhere – grossly to misrepresent those former devotees active in bringing many allegations about Sai Baba and his cult to international light. It portrays former devotees as but “a small handful of disgruntled” individuals.

This “disgruntled” label is familiarly used by Sai center leaders when they inform their congregations to pay no heed to the allegations. They, under strict instructions, say that it is “Swami’s wish” that devotees do not read the Internet writings against him.

But, as Sai Baba’s apologists would have it, those such as Robert Priddy, Brian Steel, myself and many others who have left Sai Baba are in some kind of unholy conspiracy. Among those who pronounce such unustainable defamations is the deputy chairman of the Sathya Sai Baba Organization, Dr G. Venkataraman. See:

The Declaring of Non Persons and Annihilation of Personal History

However, there are many in the Sathya Sai Organization who suppress a palpable  fact:  namely, that many of those who have left it, having investigated the allegations – particularly in their own Sai centers – were held in high esteem for decades.

These continuing Sai Baba center members have allowed themselves, year after year, to be party to defamation of many former devotees by the core leaders, which has been echoed all the way down the leadership heirarchy. Some top leaders who have so shamefully hidden vital facts from many rank-and-file devotees include:  Michael Goldstein, Indulal Shah, William Harvey, Bob Bozzani, Jagadeesan, Ashok Bhagani, T.Sri Ramanathan, Thorbjørn Meyer, Steen Piculell, Leonardo Gutter …  (Note the incredible top-heaviness of males in the Sathya Sai heirarchy!).

As the siftings and sortings of both documentary and psychological history portray themselves, it will be to their lasting shame that so many Sai devotees have stifled their consciences and commonsense.

As the Sathya Sai Organization has now only too potently seen, ever wider political, civic, religious, academic institutions now shy away from them when the sect attempts to gain outreach in communities around the world.

There has been a huge effort by former devotees to bring to international attention the facts relating to:

• serial sexual abuse
• police killings in Sai Baba bedroom (See V.P.B. Nair. B.Premanand. R.Priddy:  Sai Baba Bedroom Killings)
• financial scandals concerning vast donations from many countries
• scams involving the sale of apartments at Puttaparthi
• cover up by successive Indian governments e.g. HERE. HERE. HERE. HERE. HERE. HERE. HERE.
• repeated failure of Sai Baba’s prophecies and promises disease cure
• huge misappropriation of funds from donors worldwide, deployed to incredible pomp and extravagance
• Sai Baba’s very serious errors in regard to scientific and historical facts (covered very well by the Australian scholar Brian Steel:  my commentary and links to these are found in – Revealing Materials On Sai Baba Of India and Huge Sai Baba Gaffes). Many members of the Sathya Sai Organization have for years known, loved and respected those who subsequently have investigated the allegations and anomalies. That they can turn such a blind eye, and so stultify their hearts, and yet still claim to be loving and truthful shows them to be of a group that communities and institutions throughout the world need to be most wary of.

A very recent example of a major Sai cult leader lying about the religious nature is that of Moyia O’Brien, wealthy director of a Sathya Sai Organization front called SWARA (Sunshine Welfare Remedial Association), when interviewed by a senior investigative journalist Chris Allen in a top Australian television program ‘A Current Affair’. The sacked staff, to whom tribute had hitherto been paid, along with many clients have felt a terrible betrayal by Moyia O’Brien of her late sister Dorothy O’Brien, whom they loved and trusted for her professionalism, quite beside her pronounced qualities of compassion and understanding. Moyia O’Brien promptly summoned violent security personal and the dissenting staff and disable clients were badly shaken by the hideous response that millions of television viewers in Australia were able to see and judge for themselves. Was this the ‘Sathya’, ‘Right Conduct’, ‘Peace’, ‘Love’ and ‘Non-violence’ that Sai Baba and his devotees are forever proclaiming …?

Resemblance of The Sai Autocracy To Common Bullies

How did the cult go about subsequent damage mitigation? As it usually does – by threats against Ninemsn, which succumbed to them, we have been informed by a reliable, well-placed media insider. Other leading media in Australia – SBS, The Age, The Advertiser, (perhaps the West Australian but the journalist is keeping ‘Mum’) and other parts of the world, including the BBC, CBC (Canada), Times of London, Telegraph, Guardian, CanWest (Canada), India Today and others have stood up to Sai Baba’s extremely wealthy and powerful emissaries with their threats. I myself am among those who have been strongly threatened – in my case by Sri T. Ramanathan, recent very pompous and autocratic former head of the Sathya Sai Baba Organization in Australia. One must not so much as eye-blink in the face of these inconscienable figures, who bully like common thugs.

Quite often, among our friends or acquaintances, there is someone who has astonished – or appalled! – us with a few magic tricks.

The Ease of Learning and Performing Basic Magic Tricks

Most children and adult libraries have a selection of books on the how-to of a wide range of magic tricks. These show that, without much ingenuity or skill, most people can pick up a few, with a fundament being, of course, sleight-of-hand, not to mention the use of confederates (But can you always trust them?)

For the clear use of a confederate, you can see Doordarshan’s – Indian national radio and television broadcaster –  video footage showing Sathya Sai Baba’s palming of a necklace from beneath a trophy handed to him by his flunky. This film the then Indian Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, a Sathya Sai Baba devotee, quickly moved to censor:

Simple Man-about-town’s Magic Impromptu

A few months ago, I was sitting in a cafe and a local character of little education wandered in. He began entertaining the rest of us with a charming and adept suite of parlour tricks. I chatted with him afterwards. Clearly, he had never heard of Sathya Sai Baba. After my briefly describing Sai Baba’s so-called miraculous manifestation of objects, he immediately sprang into action, and indeed the quickness of the hand deceived the eye – until he slowed things down and also stopped diverting the observer’s attention from e.g., palming and transference of objects. Although he felt honor-bound not to reveal a number of the other tricks that he (the young man) had earlier performed, he showed exactly how Sai Baba produces necklances, pendents and sacred ash, etc.

His displays were akin to those of Nils Krøjgaard, the professional Danish conjuror, who is seen in ‘Seduced’, a television documentary (2002) by Denmark’s national broadcaster DR, which exposes Sai Baba. Famous Indian Skeptics Educate Masses About Fraudsters’ Tricks

Courageous Indian rationalists, such as B. Premanand and Professor Narendra Nayak attempt to educate India-wide audiences in demonstrations – ‘Miracle-exposures’ – of the conjuring techniques by which so-called ‘holy men’ like Sai Baba deceive the masses.

Master Magicians or Illusionists

On the other hand, there are master magicians or illusionists who are disciplined in the sense that, for example, a ballet dancer or virtuoso instrumentalist, becomes a consummate practitioner, requiring hours of daily practice. Some magicians risk their lives in pursuit of their craft. A number of them gain, such as the fabled Harry Houdini (see footage at end of this article), almost superhuman personal psycho-physical control. The magic tricks Sathya Sai Baba employs are a pale shadow of these. But they are comparable to what a adroit enough amateur can learn and perform. Do take care, though, as a kid, I once accidently swallowed a coin while trying to master a trick – ah, will the days of half pennies never return?!.

Imagine how successfully any of the outstanding magicians I refer to below could have set themselves up as ‘holy’ men in India!  Or imagine how, in a socio-economically developing country like India, where there is still a great deal of mystification especially of non-educated and semi-educated, how easy it is for an arch-deceiver such as Sathya Sai Baba – and a great many frauds without his more greatly famed and curious talents – to mislead the public.

Many Indians Disdain So-Called ‘Godmen’ Who Detract From India Greatness

Many Indians of my acquaintance (and I lived in that great country for several years), whether religious, humanist or atheist feel terribly badly about the superstition and corruption to which the socio-economic condition gives rise.

Repeatedly, on footage of Sathya Sai Baba’s apparent miracles of the materialization type, an observer – other than one stricken with blind faith – can see the same technique that magicians use, the world over.

The One Hand That Knows What The Other Is Doing (more than just slightly)

Watch Sai Baba’s right hand. It goes beneath the pile of letters (taken from the seated crowds) he holds in his left hand.  Note the swift movement as, with his right hand, he extricates the solidified material from his left. This material has yet to be crushed by the fingers of his right hand.

Quite literally, he is ‘pulling a swifty’.  Had he carried a hat instead of the letters he might have pulled a rabbit out by the ears.

If he were naturally, and without trickery, manifesting the vibhuthi (sacred ash), there would be no need for this frequent characteristic of reaching under the letters.

In short, the solid (pellet) material that is waiting to be crushed into the powder is already in his left hand.

Note: Quite apart from Sai Baba photos and videos, including those unwittingly taken by Sai devotees themselves over the years, there has been the occurrence where devotees who have seen Sai Baba cheating – i.e., using sleight of hand, etc., – have come away terribly confused and upset, and some have lost faith. Others have gone into denial, and said that it was a mere test of their faith by “the Lord”, etc., …..

On 31/10/2002, my wife Reidun and I returned from three days in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the ‘green diamond’ Sathya Sai Baba gave me in 1986 (shown above) was examined by Mr. Peter Hertz, the Danish Queen Margarethe’s jeweller, a top Scandinavian expert on precious stones and diamonds. All was filmed in detail by Øjvind Kyrø’s team for Danish TV. The result of the investigation, which took two days, is that the stone is a synthetic green sapphire.Value only about $40 today in super-expensive Denmark. Its value in India today could therefore probably be around $10.

Censored Indian National Television Film of Sai Baba Cheating

Watch Sathya Sai Baba as he is caught out cheating in the supposed  materialization of a necklace. This is the August 1992 footage taken in Hyderabad by Doordarshan, India’s national television and radio broadcaster.  The Prime Minister of the time, P.V. Narasimha Rao,

a Sai Baba devotee, stepped in and forbade the showing of the film.

Keep an eye on:

– the assistant’s hand

– the exchange of the object to be (ostensibly) miraculously materialized

– Sai Baba’s right hand taking hold of the object and then appearing to materialize it.

This was but one case in a great many cases where, all along, heavy government and media censorship have obtained in India in matters detrimental to Sai Baba. His Sathya Sai Organization is extremely widespread and powerful in that country.  The constantly corrupt leaders, irrespective of which party or coalition is in office, have no desire to see cut off the vast wealth in donations that flow to India from abroad from Sai Baba followers and other well-wishers.

The Heartlessness of Sai

Michael Goldstein and Sai Baba’s officials have turned their backs on large numbers to whom was owed, with no shadow of doubt, clear duty of care. He and these servitors have been derelict. They, like their founder, have betrayed those who had served Sai Baba devotedly down many years, and had made great sacrifices in terms of service and other forms of contribution, including in cases of their life and health.

Many leaders, including top ranking ones, have stood by devoid of conscience and decency, knowing full well that their co-workers actively defame, libel, harass and attack former devotees. In some cases, they have privately ensured that certain materials be made available.  See:

Just as has been the case down the years, those who have left more recently report no cases where Sai Baba or his organization have attempted to stop this.That members can turn such a blind eye, and so stultify their hearts, and yet still claim to be loving, truthful and righteous in their conduct shows them to be a group that communities and institutions throughout the world need to be most wary of.

It is important to civil health for communities everywhere to learn not to take members of the Sathya Sai Organization, who in so many respects are decent, caring and law-abiding individuals, at face value. Indeed, society has failed to educate itself in cult awareness.

It needs to be understood that it can be difficult for individuals within the civil community in general to distinguish conservative types of cult member just as it is for the cult members themselves to perceive that they are caught up in something that is, profoundly, not what it purports to be.
